James Money Obituary

James Money James E. Jim Money, 94, a resident of Fergus Falls, Minnesota and formerly of Kansas, died Thursday, November 14, 2013, at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Fergus Falls. James Jim Erskine Money was born on December 22, 1918, the fifth of six children, to Charles and Sarah Sallie [Hadden] Money of Winchester, Tennessee. As a child, his family moved first to Chicago then to Kansas. He graduated from Holton High School in 1937 and went to Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas for three and a half years where he played football. He didn t complete his degree at Washburn because he couldn t be a college student while attending aviator training. On June 25, 1943, Jim married Helen Elizabeth Tuley. He enlisted in the Navy in November 1943 and spent four years in various locations in the United States before settling in Florida. Jim was a Patrol Plane Commander who trained fighter pilots for World War II, and then was assigned to the Hurricane Squadron. Following his discharge in November of 1947, they moved back to Kansas where he farmed with a brother near Holton for several years. Starting in 1953 Jim worked in Topeka for Goodyear, then P.I.E. as a truck driver. He retired in October 1980. Jim and Helen moved from their Tecumseh Kansas home of almost forty years to Riverbend Apartments in Fergus Falls, Minnesota in September, 2005. In November, 2011, Jim moved into the Fergus Falls Veterans Home where he received excellent care and was very content. Jim was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who loved to fish, hunt, bowl, play cards, garden and watch sports. He was often found cheering for his grandchildren at their sporting events and other activities. Known for his sweet tooth, the sparkle in his blue eyes, and with a joke ready to share, he was always a gentleman and will truly be missed. He was a member of the Northland Christian Church of Topeka, KS for many years and attended CrossRoads Church [First Baptist] in Fergus Falls. Preceding him in death are his wife Helen on May 13, 2009; his father and mother; and his five siblings: Myrtle, Arthur, Lester, Hamp and Paul. Jim is survived by two sons: James A. (Janelle) Money of Phoenix, AZ and Bruce (Sherri) Money of Fergus Falls; two granddaughters, Kelly Money and Shannon Money of Phoenix; three grandsons, Luke Money of Minneapolis, Joel Money of St. Louis Park, and Erik Money of Northfield; one great granddaughter, Victoria Munoz, and two great grandsons, Nicholas and Nathaniel Money, all of Phoenix; and numerous nieces, nephews and their families. Memorial service, 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 19, 2013, in the multi-purpose room at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Fergus Falls. Clergy, Reverend Ned Eerdmans. Interment, Knollwood Memorial Gardens in Fergus Falls. Memorials are preferred to the Fergus Falls Veterans Home. Arrangements: Olson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls, MN. So sorry to hear of Uncle Erk's passing I remember going to Topeka to see Uncle Erk, Aunt Helen, and my cousins Jimmy and Bruce. My Dad (Hamp) would swell up with pride when he would talk about his brother's accomplishments in college, football and as a pilot during WWII.

He will truly be missed.
