I think about Nels often, when I pass the frozen custard shop, when I hear a certain song, when I pass by City Hall. I am honored to have known him and was so lucky he was a part of his life.

I am so sorry to hear of Nels passing. I worked with him at the City of Topeka for five years and he was always a favorite coworker of mine. We spent many hours working on graphics and video together, and I was lucky enough to hear quite a few stories from his life. A mentor, friend, true gentleman, excellent chef and always endlessly kind. Nels was joy in human form.

I met Nels several years ago as we started a Neighborhood Watch group. He was instrumental in getting better lighting for our streets & improvements for our neighborhood's Washburn Park. Nels had such creative ideas, and kept the group updated with newsletters. He was quiet & unassuming, but wicked smart & friendly, with a delightful twinkle in his eyes & smile. Rest in peace, Nels, and I will keep your loved ones in my prayers.

Knew him at Topeka High, great guy. Did he still answer to Hunky Anderson?

Anderson Family = I remember Shirley's boys (you were younger then) & maybe lived on Hedgewood? Shirley worked in the Trust Dept. at First Natl Bank of Topeka (OLD Bldg. at 6th & Ks. Ave). I started work there just out of High School. She invited me to your home in the evenings if we were to be at a function at the Bank several times & all of the boys were so attentive to Shirley & she was so proud of all of you. She was great on education & here in Nels obituary, it is very evident. Sorry about your loss.
