Richard was very skillful and enjoyed working with his hands. He loved his work and took great pride in making sure things were done right. Richard was a gentle, caring, compassionate man who loved his Lord and lived his life as an example of unconditional love. He loved his siblings, his family, his extended family and friends, who were blessed to be part of his life. Richards love will always be a part of the lives he touched throughout his journey. So many years later and I still can't go dancing without thinking of Richard. And Dorothy too, of course. Such a beautiful man. He lived the love of Christ in the way he loved his wife. In the way he loved his family and friends. I began to see what life might be for me in the way Richard and Dorothy modeled it in front of me. I don't think they even knew they were doing it. They just loved God and loved life and took the time to love me when I really needed it.

It has been a whole year since you left. I still miss you everyday, I saw a painting the other day of a cowboy with his horse at the end of the trail, overlookng a vast valley, he was off his horse and enjoying the sceenery. I knew you were in heaven atthe end of the trail and happy to be doing what you are doing. I miss you my friend. Love<>

Dear Dorothy and Family,

My memories go back to growing up as cousins out on the farm near Peabody. There never was a dull moment when we got together. To me, Richard was an expression of Gods' fun side. He was always happy, always had a smile on his face, and was always kind. There was a genuine innocence about him that I always appreciated. He was a lot like Jesus in many ways, but the one way that stood out to me the most was that he sweat great drops of sweat. (ha ha ha)

A life dedicated to God and family will always have a powerful impact on those that he comes in contact with. I thank God that Richard and his Mother have both had a powerful impact on my life. Anyone who has known Richard will recognize that his life has been a live motion picture showing others how they can come to know life and the giver of life as he has known it and Him.

I can hear Richard saying, follow me and you too can know the happiness and joy that I have known. Follow me and you too can know the peace that I have known. Follow me and you too can have Eternal Life with Jesus Christ as you get to know him and put your faith and trust in Him.

Richards’ life is by no means over. He has just begun. Eternity is longer now than it was when Richard and I were growing up together. If in your lifetime you have had the blessed opportunity to have gotten to know Richard, and as time passes, you forget about him, you really have not lost anything. But in your lifetime you have heard about Jesus Christ and you forget about Him, you have lost everything. Just a Richard did, give your heart and life to Jesus Christ today. You will not regret it.

Dorothy May the Peace of God and the Comfort of the Holy Spirit rest upon you. You have a very bright future because of knowing who is in your future. Rest in the Lord and wait patiently upon him and He will keep you

Dear Dorothy and family,
My heart has broken today because I’ve learned of Rich’s death. We became friends in the auto repair industry in Topeka. But, deeper, we discovered that we were brothers in Christ. For the past two years we would frequently cross paths in our work. Rich would always stop to chat briefly and offer his friendship and encouragement. Over the months I heard stories of you all, his wife and family, and his great love for each of you. Often, we would pray for each other as imperfect dads and husbands and servants of our King, Jesus. Rich was a man I would entrust my own family to. Rich reflected the glory of his God and Savior. Rich was my friend.

Dorothy & Family:

I’m really sorry to hear about your loss. It was quite a shock to read as I opened up my e-mail today, to find out about Rich. It’s been a long while since I have seen you, but I’ve never forgotten you. I have read all the good things people have said about Rich and it’s what I remember too. His smile, his sense of humor and kindness. I’m saddened today and I will remember you (Dorothy and family) in my prayers and thoughts.

Dorothy, This is Tiffany,(David and Elaine's daughter). We were so, so sorry to hear about Rich's passing. I have been praying for you and your strength each day since I heard the news. I didn't know either of you well myself but both of my parents always spoke so highly of the two of you. They loved you both like family. Daddy was going through some pictures of the cruise the other day and he just kept staring at them saying" Bless his heart, he was such a good guy". I will continue to pray for you and your family as you gain the strength to get through each day. May God be with you always.

We look forward to seeing you on the dance floor with us again. May fond memories and your strength in God help you through this difficult time. We're praying for you and your family.

I stopped at a western store yesterday and picked out a very nice pair of boots. Then I realized the thing I really liked about them is that I thought Rich would be impressed by them.
I have a quandry now because, you see, I owed him $10.
I love Him and Dorthy, always have, always will. Many times he ministered to me, encouraged me. and gave me presents. But mostly I liked being with him. I depended on him. If I can help in any way please call me.

Dorothy, Jesse, Jason, Emily and Josh-
Again, I just want to express my sorrow and heartbreak over the loss of Rich, and the void that will remain in your lives, and of those who knew him. But I also want to remember the joy that he left to help fill that void - he was a good and Godly man, who loved his family and cared for his friends like few I have ever seen. When I first got the call from Kristina on Saturday, I wondered how Dorothy would ever get along without Rich-you two were inseparable, one heart together, and I hurt for you. But as I watched your family this week, and celebrated his life at the beautiful service last night, I was comforted, knowing that, because of your and Rich's deep faith in the Lord, everything would be alright. You are all a blessing to those who know you, and Rich will be deeply missed, and he is watching over you now with that ever-present smile on his face. God bless all of you. Earlene

Dear Dorothy,

Tommy and I loved Rich. We so much appreciated you both always "babysitting" ME while Tommy played. My happiest Elders memories are times spent at the shows with you and Rich and dancing with you both to "Love of the Century". Tommy and I believe that you and Rich had that and nothing can every take that away from you. We were at the service Wed. night but could not get close enough to talk to you through your sea of friends and relatives. We are grateful you have such wonderful support. Please call us if there is anything we can do for you and I will look forward to seeing you at the Elders shows so we can catch up.

Our deepest sympathy. We were devastated and will miss him very much.

Love,

I am very saddened to hear of this horrible loss. Richard was a kind and warm man and he will be greatly missed by many. I have many great memories of enjoying your dancing in Louisburg, Spring Hill and whereever else we would run into each other. Words will not work , I was a religious man , and yet not a Man of Faith. I read about David and Goliath, Rich Planted His (cowboy)boots and made waste of the Giants. I needed a friend , you know the kind of friend who would forgo supper straighten nails as he helped you , rather in my case built me a tool box that would never profit him , and yet , invest his expertise, and serve gladly with a deep laughter that truly does resound even now. I needed a friend like that,Rich you were, rather are one . What can seperate us from Gods love? Dorothy know this I will never have another friend like Richard ,
Richard Lived Gods promise.

I worked with Rich at several dealerships in Topeka and Lawrence over the last ten to twelve years. There wasn't a more efervescent, friendly and more personable person around. He will be missed.

I had the privilege of growing up with Richard in Hillsboro, Kansas. Our families were close and we did a lot of things together. I spent one summer living on your farm outside of Bonner Springs. Men of Erin

Fair thee well me boy as you wonder this night
Be not feared in the darkness my heart is your light
As you go brave Men of Erin
Faith and love by your side
I will dream of your peace in the night

Please don’t cry my Mother as you sit by the hearth
I will dance your memories with joy in my heart
I will go now and pray as I travel this land
And live by the lessons you gave

Fair thee well me boy as you wonder this night
Be not feared in the darkness my heart is your light
As you go brave Men of Erin
Faith and love by your side
I will dream of your peace in the night

Please don’t cry my Father as you sit by the hearth
I will dance your memories with joy in my heart
I will go now and pray as I travel this land
And live by the lessons you gave

Fair thee well me boy as you wonder this night
Be not feared in the darkness my heart is your light
As you go brave Men of Erin
Faith and love by your side
I will dream of your peace in the night

Please don’t cry my Children
As you stand by my Grave
I have danced your memories all of my days
I will go now and pray as I travel this land
And live be the lessons you gave

I WORK AT CROWN CHEVROLET AND WOULD
SEE RICHARD WHEN HE WOULD COME IN TO DO CAR REPAIR. HE ALWAYS HAD A GENUINE SMILE ON HIS FACE AND SEEMED SO HAPPY. HE WOULD TELL ME OF THE PLACES HE WOULD GO WITH HIS WIFE AND THE PLACES THEY WOULD GO IN THE FUTURE. HE SEEMED SO FULL OF LIFE AND LOVE FOR HIS FAMILY. THE LAST TIME I SPOKE TO HIM HE WAS FULL OF ENERGY AND EXCITEMENT FOR THE PLANS OF HIS SONS WEDDING. HE WILL BE MISSED BY US GIRLS IN THE OFFICE OF CROWN CHEVROLET. HIS SMILE WAS CONTAGIOUS. AND FOR DOROTHY, WHOM I NEVER MET, I COULD TELL HE LOVED YOU SO MUCH, AND ENJOYED ALL YOU DID TOGETHER. HE WAS ALWAYS EXCITED TO TELL ABOUT IT. I DID NOT KNOW HIM REAL WELL BUT FROM WHAT I DID, I WILL MISS HIM. MAY GOD BE WITH ALL OF YOU THAT WAS IN HIS LIFE. BE THANKFUL GOD SHARED SUCH A SPECIAL PERSON.

Dear Dorothy and Family,
Richard was such a great guy, always in a good mood, always doing for others, always there for you and your children. In his life, Richard exhibited a wonderful example of what it was to live a Godly life with a Godly love for his family and everybody else who knew him or came into contact with him. How very blessed you have been to have him as a husband, a partner, a friend and a father. I cherish the times spent with Richard and your family, and am deeply sorry for your loss. Take solace in knowing that without a doubt, Saturday morning Richard heard the words that a Godly man longs to hear from his precious Lord and Savior “Well done, good and faithful servant”.

WE ALWAYS ENJOYED RICH'S COMPANY SO MUCH. WE MET HIM AND HIS WIFE DOROTHY THROUGH WESTERN DANCING AND IT WAS SO EVIDENT HOW VERY MUCH HE CARED FOR PEOPLE AND HOW MUCH HE LOVED HIS WIFE. HE WILL BE MISSED VERY MUCH BY EVERYONE WHO KNEW HIM.

WE WILL MISS ALL THE THINGS WE DID TOGETHER AND ALL THE MANY DINNERS OUT WE SHARED, BUT IT WILL BE SO COMFORTING TO LOOK UP AT THAT VERY BRIGHT STAR AT NIGHT AND KNOW HE IS RIGHT THERE WITH US.

My heart goes out to Dorothy and the family at this time of loss. I don't ever remember Rich not having a smile on his face when we would chat and dance at the Hill. I have never seen a couple more in sync when they were on the dancefloor. They seemed to know every move even before the other would make it. I was amazed with them before I even personally met them. He will truly be missed. My love and prayers go to you Dorothy in the coming days as you mourn the loss of your very best friend. May God be with you always.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss.
I will always think of Rich and how he always spoke well of others,
his infectious laughter and love of family, friends and music.
I feel blessed to have known him.
