Thomas Owen McAndrews was born March 24, 1940 at Maquoketa to Peter Gilbert and Bernice Elizabeth (Guyer) McAndrews. He received his education in the elementary and high schools in Lost Nation, Iowa and St. Ambrose College at Davenport and Iowa State University at Ames. Tom was united in marriage to Patricia Marie Carraher on Sept. 23, 1961 at Lost Nation. The couple have five children.
Following his education he began farming with his father, Gilbert. He then went into banking and credit moving to Clarinda in 1974 working at the Production Credit Association. He left Production Credit in the mid'80's and began consulting in the banking, insurance and financial areas. He remained active and involved with the Spectrum company. Tom enjoyed traveling, hunting and fishing, golfing, playing cards, car racing and NASCAR. He was a supporter of Clarinda, serving his community in the economic, tourism, and social areas. His family was of the utmost importance and he loved his grandchildren's activities.
Tom passed away Tuesday, Feb. 3 at Omaha, Neb. at the age of 74. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kim Limond, sister Joyce O'Connor, and parents, Bernice and Gilbert.
He is survived by his wife, Pat, of Clarinda; children Mark (Mary Frances) McAndrews of Des Moines, Greg (Barb) McAndrews of St. Louis, Mo., Steve (Julie) McAndrews of Clarinda, Shawn (Barbara) McAndrews of Clarinda, and Angie (Brad) Scheib, Plymouth, Mn.; son-in-law Phil Limond, Clinton; grandchildren Nicole and Greg Braun and their son Gabriel, George and Phillip McAndrews, Macy, Tommy and Mara McAndrews, Chase, Ethan and Kolby McAndrews, Alexia, Aaron, and Michaela McAndrews, Blake, Bennett, and Brenna Scheib; siblings Jeneane (John) Sebolt of Eldridge, Pat (Dennis) Pelan of Logan, and John (Ruth) McAndrews of Davenport; many nieces, nephews, and sisters and brothers-in-law.
Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, Feb. 7 at St. Clare Catholic Church, Clarinda, with interment at Clarinda Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Clarinda Foundation or Clarinda Lied Library. Eickemeyer Funeral Chapel, Clarinda, provided arrangements. www.MemoriesOnline.com
