Emerson Stringer Obituary

Former MS State Senator Emerson Stringer, Jr.

Columbia, MS

Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Monday, April 15, 2013, at the Improve Baptist Church, Columbia, MS for Emerson Stringer Jr., 72, of Columbia, MS who passed away at the Wesley Medical Ctr., in Hattiesburg, MS on Friday, April 12, 2013 following an extended illness. Burial with military honors will be in the Improve Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Darel Daniels will officiate.

A life-long resident of Columbia, Mr. Stringer was born on July 3, 1940 to the late Quin E. Stringer Sr., and Velma Cook Stringer. He was a cattle rancher for over 50 years, and a member of the Improve Baptist Church. A graduate of Ole Miss., he served as a Mississippi State Senator for 16 years, and honorably served our country, as an officer, in the Mississippi National Guard. His hobbies included a love for antique automobiles, and deep sea fishing.

His parents preceded him in death.

He is survived by a son, Quin E. Stringer III of Columbia, a daughter, Sheila Stringer Hoard of Cape Coral, FL, a sister, June Williams (Jon) of Columbia, two grandchildren; Rachael Lauren Hoard, and Andrew Paul Hoard, two nephews; "Reggie" Williams, and Randy Williams, and many friends.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, April 14, 2013 at the Hathorn Funeral Home, Columbia, MS from 2pm-5pm., and at the church, one hour prior to the time of service on Monday.
