George C. Stodghill

George Calvin Stodghill, 53, died August 19th, 2012, at Crossgates River Oaks Hospital after a lengthy illness.

Calvin graduated from Rankin Academy in 1976. He was Vice President of Big 10 Tire Company, a business founded by his father and uncle, until 1987. In 1988, he bought Martin's Restaurant and Bar on State Street. He was a strong supporter of the revitalization of downtown Jackson. He was a Mason and a member of The Vineyard Church.

Calvin is survived by his son Joseph Stodghill (Brandy); his daughter, Hope White (Tally); his mother, Helen Braswell; his brother, Clay Stodghill; and his sisters, Nancy Sulser, Cindy Polk, Beverly Lohman and Kelly Prude. He was the proud grandfather of Kaleigh, Olivia, Ava, Cooper and Jake.

A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. A celebration of Calvin's life will be held at Martin's on Saturday, August 25th at 5:00 p.m. for family and friends to gather in remembrance of him.

His family requests no flowers be sent. Calvin was a proud American and a strong supporter of our armed forces. He requested memorials be made to the Wounded Warriors Project, P.O. Box 758717, Topeka, KS 66675.

I just this day..found out of your passing, Calvin. My heart goes out to your family. It makes me sad to think that you are gone. But it makes me smile..knowing that we will all get to see you again one day..in a much better place. I wish you peace..and rest. Sweet dreams.

Ms. Helen and family,
I am so sorry to read of your son's illness and passing. I know how hard it is to say goodbye to someone you love dearly - my mom, Ruth, passed away in February but ow blessed we are to know where they are and that we will see them again.
