Dexter Johnson Obituary

Our beloved Dexter Andre Johnson was born to William Guerin Johnson and the late Eulla Bell Johnson in Hawkinsville, Georgia on March 1, 1967. He spent his early years in Rochelle, Georgia. He grew up on military bases-Fort Gordon, Georgia (now Fort Eisenhower), Fort Hood, Texas, (now Fort Carazos) and Fort Campbell, Kentucky before he and his family settled in Clarksville, Tennessee. He attended and graduated from Northeast High School in Clarksville, Tennessee in 1985. He was an excellent student and was named to the Honor Roll multiple times. In 1996, he joined the United States Marine Corp and trained at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina.

Dexter was a fantastic all-around athlete. He enjoyed swimming and tumbling and was especially good at basketball. He was an outstanding cook who took pleasure in preparing meals for family and friends. He always had a beautiful smile and a joke to tell. Dexter was always willing to help people and would be available for anyone and everyone. He would assist on any home project and, when needed, would tutor family members in the subjects of math and science. All who knew Dexter also knew that he was a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan. Dexter enjoyed the NFL football season and delighted in calling all Washington Commanders (Redskins) fans and talking smack. After a Dallas win against the Commanders, his telephone call always started with “How ‘bout them Cowboys!”

Dexter was a “jack of all trades.” There was nothing that he couldn’t do. He worked in the family business, Johnson Service Center, where he honed his skills in customer service and household appliance repair. Dexter was employed by Oakgrove Gaming and most recently employed by a popular restaurant chain.

Dexter also spent a lot of time in Nashville, TN where he helped his niece, Jamia Johnson. He was her personal handyman, cook, and “manny” to her daughter Jadore Johnson. Dexter was the default Bunco player, TikTok participant, and dance partner. He also served as her “wingman” during many social events. Jamia’s friends loved him, and he was always the life of the party.

Dexter will be greatly missed by his sons, Malik Monterrio Johnson and Isaiah Keith Johnson of North Carolina; his father William Johnson (Barbara) of Clarksville, TN, his sister Beatrice Mines (Michael) of Ashburn, VA; his brothers Ronald Matthew Johnson and Anthony Egbert Johnson of Clarksville, TN; his nephews Adrian Keith Mines (Samantha) of Asheville, NC, Darius Matthew Le’on Johnson of Orlando, FL, and Shamar Anthony Johnson of Killeen, TX; his nieces Jamia Renay Johnson of Nashville, TN, Marasha Symone Johnson of Orlando, FL, Lauren Brooke Mines of Houston, TX, Alaysia Lanyah Johnson of Clarksville, TN, Demaria Antoniece Bell of Portland, TN, Alonah Marie Wallace of Killeen, TX, Khorey Williams of Clarksville, TN, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Dexter was preceded in death by his mother, Eulla Bell Johnson, and his brothers Keith Wayne Johnson and James Garin Johnson.
