Esther Marie Hicks

1934 - 2022

Esther passed peacefully in her home. Survived by her husband Norman; her son Norman, Jr. and his wife Tanya; her grandson Robert Kurvink; her grandson Greg Kurvink and his wife Kelly, by three great-grandchildren Amalia, Alex and Emile; by her great-grandson Austin Kuhn and his wife Gabrielle and Esther's great-great-grandson Jack and a great-great-granddaughter on-the-way; by her three sisters Mary Hoffmeyer, Martha Bay, and Sara Schemick; as well as by many nieces, nephews and friends. Esther's passing was preceded by her two daughters, Teresa Lee and Beth Ellen; and by Esther's two brothers, William and John Hoffmeyer. Esther was born to William and Evelyn (Davis) Hoffmeyer. In 1955, Esther graduated as a Registered Nurse from The Church Home and Hospital School of Nursing in Baltimore, MD. During her career she worked at Fort Logan Mental Health Center; Bear Creek Nursing Home - where she and her team founded one of the first Alzheimer's care units in the nation; and as Director of Nursing at Brighton Gardens Assisted Living Center until retirement in 2004. A founding member of Lookout Mountain Community Church, and a shining example of Christian ideals, Esther lived her faith and her profound love for God. Committed to family and friends, and to seeing the best in all people, countless lives were blessed by Esther's joyful, loving kindness. Deeply loved and dearly missed, we are grateful for the grace of having shared in Esther's life.
