GENOA - Joan Norma Homolka, 81, 0f Genoa, Nebraska, died peacefully with her family by her side on Friday, June 27, 2014, at the Cloverlodge Care Center, in St. Edward, Nebraska.
The funeral service will be Tuesday July 1, 10:00 a.m. at the Faith Lutheran Church in St. Edward, with Rev. Brian Ketelsen officiating. Interment will be in the Roselawn Memorial Cemetery in Columbus, Nebraska. Visitation will be on Monday from 5-7 p.m. at the Ramaekers Patrick Funeral Chapel in Genoa and on Tuesday from 9-10 a.m. at the church.
Joan Norma Homolka was born August 12, 1932, to Noah and Florence (Pfeifer) McCoig on a farm by Silver Creek, Nebraska. Joan was one of four children. She attended District 34 country school and graduated from Silver Creek High School. Joan then had normal school training which allowed her to teach, which she did at District 2 School until her family came along. On November 24, 29150, Joan was united in marriage to Alfred Homolka in Columbus Junction, Iowa. They had three children Linda, Jim, and Darwin. Joan worked as a housewife and helping with the chores on the farm. They were a very close family. Joan enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed reading, watching TV, and always was talkative, smiling, and happy.
Joan is survived by: daughter, Linda (John) Panek of Madison, son Jim (Carol) Homolka of Genoa, son Darwin (Elizabeth) Homolka of Genoa; grandchildren, Brian Homolka, John Homolka, Chad (Keri) Homolka, Gina (Ryan) Bossow, Brandi (Cully) Craig, Justin (Kendra) Homolka, Mike Panek and special friend Cassie Gentry; step grandchildren, Michele Ziemba, Christopher Loescher, Cassandra Holmberg; 6 great grandchildren; sister, Sheryl Smith, sister, Arlyce Sellhorst, brother, Dennis (Lynda) McCoig.
Joan was preceded in death by parents, Noah and Florence McCoig, husband, Alfred Homolka, grandson, Jason Panek, brother-in-law, Leonard Homolka, brother-in-law, Claire Smith.
