Frederick Jacobs Obituary

Frederick Phillip Jacobs III

Memphis, TN

Frederick Phillip Jacobs III died peacefully in his sleep at age 69 on April 3, 2016 after a valiant battle with heart disease and its complications.

The son and grandson of planters and Navy and Army decorated war veterans from Grider, Arkansas, Phillip treasured his boyhood on the family cotton plantation, San Souci. Phillip sold real estate in Memphis and boats in Orange Beach, Alabama.

Phillip's humor and his good old boy wit endeared him to countless friends and many girlfriends throughout his life. An avid duck hunter, fisherman, lover of fast boats and good whiskey, Phillip was unique and much loved.

One of three children, he leaves his mother, Betty Jeanne Jacobs Hoyt, and two sisters, Jeanne Jacobs Lichterman Sutherland (Arthur) of Memphis, and Valerie Hoyt Alberta (Eric) of New York City. Most treasured and like a son was Martin Lichterman, his nephew. Phillip also leaves Madalyn, Martin's daughter, and Rachael, Martin's wife.

His best gift to this world is what a dear and loving friend he was. "Jake" will long be remembered as "The Mayor of Pickwick" for the many years summers spent socializing and merry making.

In accordance with his wishes, no formal services will be held, only a private celebration of Phillip's life with family and close friends. Any memorials may be made to the Humane Society or to the charity of the donor's choice.

It is almost unreal to believe that Big Phil is no longer with us. He was a great friend and had the biggest of hearts. We will truly miss him.

His smile was just the beginning of the entertainment.

Phillip was one of a kind. Although we lived in different places we were able to stay in touch over all the years. His voice will be missed by all who were ever in his life.
