Margaret Broadbent Obituary

Margaret E. Broadbent 94, died March 24, 2011 in Centerville, Mass. She is survived by her brother David; nephew David L.; niece Susan; and many area cousins. She was born on Jan. 21, 1917 in Plymouth, Mass. to Wilfred O. and Alice Cole Broadbent. Her father's family was from Philadelphia and Wales; her mother's roots were in South Wellfleet. Mass. She grew up in Plymouth and Quincy with brothers David and Wilfred, then Rhode Island, where she graduated from Cranston High School in 1934. She graduated from Mt. Holyoke College in 1938 and then attended Katherine Gibbs School. She moved to New York City and worked at Rockefeller University until retirement in 1979. She then moved to Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. and summered at her South Wellfleet home. She retired year round to Cape Cod in 1999. Ms. Broadbent liked birds, flowers, gardens, hiking, skating, swimming, music, theater and world travel with her companion of more than 60 years, Edith King. A graveside remembrance will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 21 at South Wellfleet Cemetery.
