Susan Verner Wells

Memphis, TN

Susan Verner Wells, 62, loving wife, mother and friend, died at her home of natural causes on Tuesday, August 7, 2018. She was a lifelong resident of Memphis, and was part of the first graduating class of Raleigh Egypt High School. She worked for a time in the bookselling business, both as clerk and manager, and had an abiding interest in books, especially children's literature. She was born September 2, 1955, the daughter of Mildred Broome and Dr. Walter Eugene Verner. She matriculated at and sometimes attended Memphis State University. She is survived by her husband, Larry Wells; son, James Verner Wells; by her sister, Carol Verner Craig; by her brothers, Paul and Tim Verner; by her mother, and her grandmother, Margaret Broome. She was predeceased by her grandparents, Anna May Loller, Thomas Eugene Verner and James Broome, by her father in 2016 and by her grand-niece, Mary Stevens Craig in 1993. The family requests that any memorials should be in the form of flowers, and request nothing in lieu of flowers. Susan loved flowers. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m., Thursday, August 9 at Forest Hill East with service immediately following at 2 p.m.
