Kay Sears

July 13, 2009

Dear Friends,
The kids and I so appreciate your heartfelt notes to us. He was a protective and loving husband and Father. If you were his friend there were no bounds to his caring for you. He was as hard and demanding of himself as he was of those around him. I often told him that if I were to commit a crime I would not want him to be the one looking for me.
Basking in his love was a warm and safe place to be and I miss his blemishes too! It was shocking and heartbreaking for him to be diagnosed on Thursday and gone from us on Monday. To those of you that we failed to get in touch with please accept the family's regret You remian in our prayers for your loss too.
Thank each of you so very much for sharing in our loss.
Love,
Kay, Kevin and Carrie

We are so sorry for your loss and ours, as well. Inspector Sears will be remembered for many wonderful things but one in particular involving the Sheriff's dispatchers. He cared for us. Even though we were not "on the scene" he understood that we hurt, too. He thought about us amidst whatever crisis was going on. He considered us part of his team. We love him for it and will miss him so much! Thanks to the Sears family for so generously sharing him with us.

It was an impressive funeral procession traveling East on Poplar. With respect, I was stopped in traffic. God Bless your family.

Kay,
Gary and I were so sad to hear of Bill's passing.
We had not heard of his illness and so it was a shock.
Gary couldn't attend the visitation nor service because of a virus he has, but please know our prayers for you and the children will be going up faithfully.
May God comfort all of you as only he can.
God bless you all.

When I became a Deputy in 1995, I would always hear the name Bill Sears. It was as though is was an "unoffical" rule among Deputies that you had to work under Bill Sears to be a good officer. I finally got that privilege before I was promoted and for a year after promotion. It can not be adequately measured what the teachings of Insp. Sears has done for law enforcement. So many officers were helped personally and professionally. My prayers are with his family. Thank You Insp. William Austin Sears II.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family of Inspector W. A. Sears at this difficult time. It was a great privilege to have worked closely with Inspector Sears as a member of his clerical staff in the Uniform Patrol Division and once again in Courts. I am especially fond of Inspector Sears because he always ensured that "everything was well" with us as we worked under his leadership. Gone but not forgotten!

Kay,
I am so saddened by the Inspector's death. I worked with him 25 years at the Sheriff's Dept. He was a Sergeant in the Jail when I hired on. I thought he was the grumpiest man I had ever met. As I came to know him I learned that he had a big heart and was full of compassion. He loved and was dedicated to his family and his family of officers who all loved him.
Inspector Sears will be greatly missed but we know he is smiling down on us.

It was truly a priveledge to learn and work under Inspector Sears. I always knew where I stood with him and even when I made mistakes he wouldn't toss me away. I will remember that always and I am thankful. God Bless your family.

Kay,
Although High School was a long time ago, some memories do not fade completely and that is those of Bill. I was priviledged to see him a few times throughout the years at 201 Poplar where I worked for the MPD. His great personality never changed and the SCSD was better for having him there all those years. We haven't kept in touch but my heart is heavy for your loss, and I pray God will provide the comfort that is needed for such a time as this.
Much love,
Sonja (Curry) Hollie

June 17, 2009

I worked with Inspector Sears in the late 1980's executing Narcotics Search Warrants. Sears was a man of his word. He said what he meant and meant what he said. He did not talk just to be talking, and I respected him for that.

June 17, 2009

Carrie,
I am soo sorry to hear about your dad. I can't imagine the shock you must be feeling right now. I know there are going to be times when you feel a void in your life and when you need to talk to him or confide in him; but he is still there with you in spirit and you can still talk to him anytime. Always remember that you brought your dad so much joy and he loved you so much. Your dad was proud of you and the accomplishments in your life. You also gave him the Best Gift in the world; Austin! You were so unselfish with your child and shared him with your dad and that brought him so much pleasure! I know he was taken much too soon, but God needed him in Heaven! He is probably already taking charge and establishing order in Heaven; like we always remember him doing. When you feel sad, try to remember all the happy times you had with your dad, how much he loved you and Austin, your mom, Kevin, fishing, hunting, life, and his career. But most of know that he is not suffering anymore and he is watching over you and Austin. I love you guys and I'm here for you if you need anything. I will continue to keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers. God Bless You.

Love You,

June 17, 2009

Kay,
I am so saddened to hear that Bill passed away. I know I haven't seen you all in a while, but I have always considered you my "second" family. I know these are hard times for you and it will continue to be difficult in the days and weeks ahead, just know that God will continue to be with you and Bless you. I have sooo many memories of you, Bill, Carrie, Austin, and some of Kevin and Jeff; but through all of those memories, the ones that stick out to me are: how much Bill loved you, how much he loved his children, his family and close friends, his co-workers, his career, fishing, hunting; but his biggest joy in life was Austin! He loved his grandson so much! It is always sorrowful when we lose a loved one, but have Faith that he is with his maker and he is truly at "Home." He is not in pain anymore; he is whole in body and in spirit and he is watching over you!! You will continue to be in my thoughts and prayers. If there is anything I can do for you and the family, please don't hesitate to call.

Love Ya'll

Kay, Kevin, Kerry and Austin,
Insp. talked about all of you often and he loved each one of you. He was a friend you could trust. Although he may have come off grumpy sometimes, he had a heart filled with kindness and concern for his fellow officers and employees. The Shelby County Sheriff's Office has lost a great dedicated man.

Kay,
We are crushed by this news. I had tried so hard to avoid the reality of your letter about Bill's condition, but last night I just felt a strong need to let you both know how much we care. The past two weeks I had been remembering the tournament on Sam Rayburn where we met, and the many fun times we spent with you both. We were selling the old Skeeter because Walt bought a new boat, but letting it go was bringing back all of the good times we spent on board her. No one can ever say that Bill did not live life to the fullest, or that he did not have a remarkable, loving family. You meant so much to him. Tell Carrie and Austin to give you a big hug for us. We are so sorry for your loss.
Love,
Becky
