Doris Cayer Obituary

Doris M. Cayer

CONTOOCOOK, NH -

Well-loved and respected Doris Cayer, 82, of Contoocook, NH, passed away peacefully on July 12, 2024, after a tenacious battle with cancer.

She was born Doris Shatney in the town of Weare to Elizabeth Davis and Arnold Shatney, where she thrived with her six siblings on a farm, instilling a sense of self-sufficiency. She resided with her husband Neil in the great town of Contoocook, where she raised nine children and was known for her strong will, generosity, and watchful eye for the protection and care of all children.

Doris was one of the toughest, with an incredible amount of grit and integrity. Always helping others, she was a master problem solver with remarkable insight. A pillar of the community, she will be deeply missed by all.

She is preceded by her husband Neil T. Cayer and stepsons Dana and Brett. She is survived by those of the prominent Cayer and Barton families, including sons Kent Barton and Neil Cayer, daughter Valerie Dyer, step-sons Thomas and Larry, step-daughter Crystal, grandchildren Nicole, Ty, Tessa, Neil, Lucia, and Abram, and many more.

Graveside services will be held at the Contoocook Village Cemetery on Sunday August 4, at 1 pm, followed by a reception at The Contoocook American Legion from 2-5 pm.

The Holt-Woodbury Funeral Home & Cremation Service is assisting the family.
