Mike F. Whittier

1956 - 2017

DUNBARTON – Mike F. Whittier, 60, of Dunbarton, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, March 19, 2017, at the Concord Hospital. Born on July 2, 1956, in Grasmere, he was the son of the late Fred P. Whittier II and Gertrude (Emerson) Whittier of Weare. He graduated from Weare High School in 1974.

I'm sure if you were to ask around you would hear stories of how Mikey was always ready for a good laugh. Like the time he thought it would be funny to streak through the School Gym wearing nothing but his sneakers!! He worked various jobs over the years but most recently at St. Paul's School in Concord, as the grounds keeper for the last 17+ years. Oh how the little Campus critters would wait for Mikeys' truck to come by every morning delivering treats. He was always good for an interesting story when you saw him around campus. This past Christmas he played Santa for the students. He had the best time making those kids laugh and was so proud to be part of the family of St. Pauls'. He truly loved everyone there and was grateful to be part of that wonderful facility. In 2013 he was honored to receive the Benjamin Rush Toland Memorial in recognition of being a valued member of the staff. When asked over the years if he had any kids, Mikey liked to answer that question by saying, " Ya, 500 of em' "...all those kids at St. Pauls' were Mikeys' kids. He loved each and every one of them. Mikey had a larger than life personality and was quite a character. He had a way of not only telling a story but an ability to draw you with his animated facial expressions and voice impersonations. His 3 Stooge's mixed with Monty Python sense of humor doesn't begin to describe this one of kind guy!! Truly hilarious.

Mikey loved being a part of things. He and his brother Pat spent many years enjoying tractor pulling. All kinds of tractor pulling. Big tractors, little tractors, it didn't matter. They enjoyed it all, together and with friends. He also loved auto racing with brothers, Fred and Bruce. Boy, there was nothing better than going racing with the whole family. Mikey made sure that racecar was the shiniest one on that track, buffing it till the wee hours of the morning, proud as peacock to be there. To the first responders of Dunbarton that were there so quick on the scene, to the gifted surgeons, doctors and nurses of the ICU at the Concord Hospital, and to all of Mikeys many fantastic and loving friends, the family thanks you all from the bottom of our hearts. We knew as you all stood and cried with us as he passed away that you all knew how special this man was to our lives and how missed he will be everyday from here forward. We cannot express how grateful we are for all of the love and support you have given.

If there is a final lesson to be learned from the life of Mikey it would be this...always take time to love, take time to laugh (A lot!!) and take time to be grateful for what you have. Take time as he did to pass on a smile and think of others. He was the most selfless and humble person you could have ever met. His last gift was to become an organ donor. He will be missed greatly. Mikey was predeceased by two nephews, Edward Durham and Joel Durham Jr.

Members of his family include his siblings, Ruthanne Swanson of Henniker, Fred P. Whittier III and his wife, Elizabeth of Show Low, Ariz., Bruce Whittier and his wife, Jennifer of Manchester and Pat Whittier and his wife, Wijpkjen of Dunbarton. His nephew, Joel Durham Sr. Several nieces, Kristen Morse, Erika Folliard, Courtney McGee and Lura Whittier. Hold on...he would also want to mention all those grand-nephews and nieces...Angela Case, EJ Durham, Jacob Morse, Marisa Quinonez, Abby Morse, Jordan Case, JJ Folliard, and last but not least Uncle Monkeys little Braydi McGee!! I think that's all of them.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, March 26, at French and Rising in Goffstown from 2 to 6 p.m.

Mikey will be laid to rest at the St. Paul Cemetery later in the Spring.
