Rickey Newman Obituary
Nottingham, NH - On Thursday, June 6th, 2024, Rickey G. Newman peacefully, yet unexpectedly, entered Heaven, surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife, Diane Poulin-Newman, of 46 years, a couple for 51 years since Junior High School. He is also survived by his beloved daughter, Tricia Marie Newman, the only child of the happily married couple.
Rickey was born in St. John's, Newfoundland on November 11th, 1958. He was one of eleven children, son of Gerald Newman and Marie Wiseman. Rickey graduated from Portsmouth High School, Portsmouth, NH in 1977, and then married the love of his life, Diane, one year later on August 26, 1978. Rickey and Diane grew up in Portsmouth and had many businesses together, including a taxi company and a cleaning business. Eventually, Rickey got into Politics, where he found a career he came to love. He had great wisdom, humor, and countless love for this family and friends. Rickey was a Portsmouth City Counselor, then a member of the New Hampshire State Legislature for ten years. It was in that position that he worked to expand the 1983 Crime Victims Rights Law. He was very proud to have also been the one to raise the NH drinking age from 18 years old to 21 years of age. Rickey was one of the youngest state legislators at this time, and had many accomplishments.
Rickey became a Lobbyist 35 years ago, and was very successful. His efforts in passing Charity Gaming in the state of NH made a difference in many lives. He has many other clients and was proud of his work on their behalf. It came natural to him to never quit on many issues he fought for. Rickey was one of a kind!
Important to Rickey was work, friends, and especially family, as well as their time together at their vacation home in Key West, Florida. He called it his "happy place." We will miss you dearly, Rickey. Love always, Diane and Tricia.
The Celebration of Life for Rickey will be held at: Bennett Funeral Home 209 North Main Street, Concord, NH Saturday, June 15th, 2024 10AM-1PM. A luncheon will follow after the service at Cheers Grille & Bar 17 Depot St #1 Concord, NH 03301 from 1PM-4PM. Sorry, no children at this event

Diane, Tricia, and Family:
Nancy and I share your grief. This is one of those times when finding the right words just cannot adequately say what we intend them to mean.
Rick and I were more than friends. He was the first person I hired and the best employee ever! In the complex and strange world of politics, Rick was honest, trustworthy, calculated, very effective and his legacy is underscored by his moral compass which he never abandoned. He strove to represent his clients with fair and honest results and this he did. I know of no one who came to the State House with such unheralded and humble roots and who rose to the level of distinction as did he.
Rick was truly a consummate politico, principled and dedicated to worthy causes, and always with a clear vision toward the end he sought on behalf of family, his friends, and his clients.
Rick called me three weeks ago to talk politics, and in retrospect I now believe he was calling to say 'goodbye. In the end, all we're left with are the memories, and he and I shared the best of the best.
Rick's passing leaves a hole in the hearts of those who shared his shortened life but time will heal us as we relive the laughter we shared with him.

Mr. Newman was one of the nicest human beings I have ever had the opportunity to know and work with. I was so so very sorry to hear of his passing. My condolences to his loved ones at this time - his loss from this world will be great I know. Smiles and laughter always followed him wherever he went.
