Robert Arata Obituary

Robert Arata

Concord, NH - Robert "Bob" Eugene Arata, 89, passed away on January 28, at Havenwood Heritage Heights Assisted Living in Concord, NH after a period of declining health. Bob was born on October 16, 1935, in Portland, ME to Claude Arata and Katharine Cullinan.

A graduate of Portland High School, Class of '54, he went on to obtain a BA degree in Communications and English at Emerson College, Class of '61. Bob earned his M.Ed in Public School Administration at Plymouth State College, Class of '73.

Bob succeeded in a variety of careers. He taught school in Merrimack Valley and Concord School Districts. He also managed Bouyea-Fassett's Bakery and worked at Bennetts Funeral Home. He enjoyed his many roles in sales and teaching as it gave him many opportunities to connect with people. A proud veteran, Bob was a Sergeant First Class in the Army Reserves, having taught leadership courses. He also served for several years in the Marine Reserves.

Among the many roles Bob had in life, singing and acting in amateur theater was possibly his favorite, after being a father and husband. He met his wife, Jane, while performing in the "Clown Who Ran Away." One of his favorite roles was as King Mongkut in "King and I." Over the years he continued to perform whenever he had the chance and would often break out in song no matter the place or occasion, to the delight of all about him. His smile, laughter, and songs will be sorely missed.

Always ready to serve, Bob took on many roles at St. Paul's Church. He was also Exalted Ruler at the Elks. In his free time, he enjoyed traveling; especially to the family camp in Maine and reading. Bob will be dearly missed by his children; Amy Goumillout, Darryl Arata, Sherri (Jon) Fisk, and Sarah Smith. His grandchildren; Aleka Goumillout, Chelsi (Jon) Miller, Andrew Goumillout, Kealey Smith, and great-granddaughter, Mila Goumillout. He will also be missed by his stepsister, Judy Beane. Bob was predeceased by his loving wife of 57 years, Jane Arata.

Calling hours will be at Bennett Funeral Home, Concord, NH on Thursday, March 27 from 5-7 pm. A Celebration of Life will be held at St. Paul's Church in Concord, NH on Friday, March 28 at 11 AM followed by a reception. After the reception, all are welcome to join in with the processional to the Veteran's Cemetery in Boscawen for a military funeral.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Paul's Church in Concord, N.H. or a charity of your choice.

Bob and his wife Jane are 2 of our favorite people. I knew him from their beginning and remember reassuring Jane's Mom that Bob was a 'keeper' and not to worry about the age difference! Bob's an amazing human being so full of life and song that we loved and always looked forward to. We truly miss them...

The members of Horace Chase Lodge #72, Penacook NH send our condolences to the Arata family. Bob was a Life member of our Lodge. When we would do a Masonic Service at Bennett's, Bob was always there with a smile and hand shake.

Bob and Jane were my neighbors for decades. I also worked with Jane at Orr&Reno for many years. We often chatted in their yard in the evenings when I'd be walking my dog. They were wonderful neighbors and I miss them. My deepest sympathy to your family.

I am so sorry for your loss. I was in many shows with Bob, and came to know him and your mother very well. I, too, have a home in Maine (Hancock) and have been living here full time since late 2020. My deepest condolences to the Arata family.
