Robert Batchelder Obituary

ALLENSTOWN – Robert H. Batchelder, age 75, died at his home Saturday, Jan. 24, 2015, after a short battle with cancer. He was born in Goffstown, son of Horace Batchelder and the late Anne (Chroniak) Batchelder. He was raised in Allenstown and was a graduate of Pembroke Academy.

After graduation, he was picked up by the Boston Red Sox as a pitcher for the Waterloo, Iowa, Hawks of the Class D Midwest League. Robert served in the U.S. Army, serving one year at Fort Sill, Okla., and one year in Korea.

Robert worked for Pembroke Boats, Calypso Yachts and Pequod Yachts in his earlier years. He worked at the Federal Building in Concord for many years as a grounds and maintenance worker. Robert retired in 2012 from the New Hampshire Supreme Court Administrative Office of the Courts after 20 years of service in grounds and maintenance.

Neighbors would often see Robert puttering around the yard. He enjoyed working in his flower gardens, watching and feeding the birds and squirrels, and he loved making trips to Foxwoods, Mohegan Sun and Oxford Casinos. He was an avid sports fan always rooting for his Boston Red Sox, Patriots and Celtics.

In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife of 41 years, Marilyn (Kress) Batchelder; a daughter, Kristen Brien and her husband Dan of Allenstown; a grandson, Danny Brien of Allenstown; a great-granddaughter, Adrianna Brien; and aunts and cousins.

As per Robert's wishes, there will be no calling hours or services.

To my cousin Bob,
I have many memories of us playing together as children in Suncook. We shared a love of the Red Sox and I remember when you started to play for them.
Rest in peace, Bob.

Your cousin Connie.

Bob made his mark on the world through his kind heart, his work ethic, his sense of humor, etc.. I could go on but just read the legacy that the folks who knew him have written about Bob. I am proud to have known Bob Batchelder and to have worked with him for the past 20 years. He was my friend and had no enemies and was the most loved man at the courthouse and The AOC Building.

RIP Bobby. I am thankful to have know you as a hometown boy made good. I remember being a young girl that was fascinated with the star pitcher from Pembroke Academy that was drafted by the Red Sox. As a matter of fact, you told the story often of how your signing day was the only time you visited the Fenway shrine. You were a fixture in the Suncook community and I remember you wearing your Red Sox jacket at the local skating rink. You also helped with our CYO girls team and made all the girls blush. In 2001 I started work for the Administrative Office of the Courts and recognized you right away with your youthful figure and zest for life. I remember when you were going to eat your shoe if the Red Sox didn't win the World Series one year, you loved our Red Sox. We talked of our enjoyment of Foxwoods and how you like to stay on the lower floors. You always had a smile on your face and I always enjoyed seeing you and saying hello and hearing your baseball stories and sharing our enthusiasm for the Red Sox. Your retirement was too short, my friend, may you be throwing those fastballs in heaven like you used to in your prime.May the memories help your family through this difficult time...

I am so sad to read of Bobby's passing. I knew Bobby from my younger years when he was a local kid made good by signing with the Boston Red Sox. He skated at the local St. Jean parish with his Red Sox jacket on. He had made it, even for a brief minor league stint, and he was our local hero. I reconnected with him when I came to work at the Administrative Office of the Courts. He was never without a smile, such a fit man who came to work early in the morning with lunch at 10ish and was proud of the job he did for the courts. We could smell the aroma of his burgers around that time as he often cooked his lunch. He loved his Foxwoods visit and was a very proud man. I am fortunate to call him my friend. Bobby, it is a shame that you didn't get to enjoy enough of your retirement years but I can say that you enjoyed life to the fullest. RIP my friend...
