Todd Morin Obituary

Todd William Morin POMFRET CENTER - Todd William Morin, 36, of Pomfret Center, Connecticut, passed away on April 10, 2011. He was a family man, successful entrepreneur, and generous friend who faced adversity head-on, with a sense of humor, and with fortitude. Todd's courageous battle with cancer began over six years ago, when he was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a terminal cancer of the blood. Though the disease weakened his body, it could not diminish Todd's spirit. He was a man determined to live every moment to the fullest, and he did. He was equally determined to share every moment with the love of his life, Holly (Backes) Morin, his wife and companion of 15 years. They met in their teens and were together ever since. The center of his life, the person to whom he would have given the world, was their son, Aidan Michael Morin, who inspired him to keep moving forward, despite the odds. As a family they loved and laughed often. Todd was committed to creating memories that would endure, be it summer trips to Martha's Vineyard, amusement park rides in Florida, or simple nights in front of the TV with Holly and Aidan at his side. As a successful entrepreneur, Todd's innovation, business acumen, and willingness to roll up his sleeves, led to the creation of eEuroparts.com. his highly successful foreign car-parts business grew from a single-car garage to a bustling warehouse, nearly overnight. As owner and proprietor, Todd poured energy into his business and never allowed his illness to limit his commitment to its continued growth. To him, the concept of a ‘sick day' did not exist. Prior to owning and operating eEuroparts.com, Todd served as a sales manager for Saab, he graduated from Woodstock Academy in 1994. Todd was a good and generous friend. His wit and irreverent humor were matched only by his generosity and compassion. Though traditionally soft-spoken and subtle, his laugh was joyous, distinct and infectious, he lit up the room. To be on the receiving end of Todd's sardonic, yet playful, ribbing was to feel his love. Todd's generosity with family and friends extended beyond, to philanthropic ventures including Dana Farber Cancer Institute and other New England charities. Though he contributed anonymously, hundreds of families in Northeastern Connecticut enjoyed a Thanksgiving turkey courtesy of Todd. Todd Morin lived his whole life with passion, determination, humility, and a sense of personal responsibility. No set-back could keep him down. Todd was resilient. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. In memory, he will serve as a continual inspiration that life is for living and that nothing positive ever came from self-pity. In addition to his wife, Holly, and son, Aidan, Todd is survived by his mother, Elizabeth Clark, his brother, Timothy Morin, and his sister, Megan (Morin) Franzino and her husband, Kevin. His family also includes father-in-law and mother-in-law, Michael and Kathleen Backes, three sisters-in-law, Katherine Backes, Jennifer (Backes) Brown and her husband Brooks, Amy (Backes) Chace and her husband Matthew. Todd's nephews, Davis Tucker Brown and Maxwell, Murphy, and Matthew Chace, and his niece, Caroline Brown, will cherish the warm memories of their Uncle Todd, and will miss him dearly. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to: The Jimmy Fund, 10 Brookline Place West, Brookline, MA 02445. Calling hours will be at Tillinghast Funeral Home, 433 Main Street, Danielson, Connecticut. 3:00 - 5:00 P.M., Friday April 15th. Burial will be private.

For many years, Todd and I had what could fairly be described as the best business-based relationship I've ever been party to, and as I told him more than once, my family held him in great regard for the utterly reliable manner in which he helped us to keep our fleet of aged and decrepit Volvos (nine at last count, the newest 18 years old) running. It is clearer to me now that this was due more to his inherently good nature than to some sort of business strategy. Car parts, however, I can get anywhere, but the reason I got mine from his company was because of Todd. My genuine affection for him is also the cause of my considerable sorrow at his loss. I hope that his family and friends can take comfort in having known an undeniably special person.

I went to Woodstock Academy and then had the honor to care for Todd during his courageous battle with Myeloma. He was so strong and brave to undergoe the intense treatment he received. His grace and kindness always shown through when he talked about how he was feeling and never wanted to focus on himself. He like to engage in conversations about his precious son, Aidan, and beautiful wife, Holly. I always remember him smiling, even if he was having pain, when he spoke of them both. I have since moved to Nashville but kept in close touch with Dana Farber Cancer Institute. I was notified the day of Todd's passing by the medical team that shared in Todd's care. We were all so saddened by this news. It is hard to understand and accept, but I know he is relieved of his pain. Todd will always be in our hearts and be an aspiration to all of us.

Todd was a stand-up guy. I had the pleasure of working with him nearly two years ago. He hired me to help him develop a wholesale program for Saab and Volvo parts, separate fron the retail side, eeuroparts.com. One would be hard-pressed to find a more honorable and fairer-minded boss than Todd. He was the consummate professional and was a true inspiration. I was, and remain, in awe of his brilliance.

This news is heartbreaking. I will allways remember Todd as the cute boy from Pomfret who was quiet, but not shy, fun and funny, and loved his Saab. I went to Woodstock Academy with Todd. Best wishes to his family, we are all lucky to have shared part of our lives with him.
