James Jennings Obituary

James Barry Jennings "Jim", 82, passed away on Sunday, February 23, 2025, in Savannah, Georgia, surrounded by his loving family. Born July 28, 1942, in Beaumont, Texas, Jim was raised in a faith-filled Christian home and was baptized at Magnolia Avenue Baptist Church.

He attended French High School, where he met the love of his life, Carolyn Nichols. His athletic gifts led him to become a dual-sport athlete in baseball and football at Tulane University, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Business.

After graduation, Jim married Carolyn and began his career with Gulf Oil Company in Houston, Texas. During their time there, they welcomed two children, Todd and Tricia. After several transfers, Jim and his family eventually settled in Atlanta, Georgia.

Jim was a devoted member of North Peachtree Baptist Church in Dunwoody, Georgia, for over 40 years, serving as a deacon, elder, and Sunday School teacher. He was a loving husband and father, leading his family with wisdom and faith. Jim had a generous heart, always willing to sacrifice for the good of his family and friends.

After more than 20 years in financial management at Gulf Oil, Jim transitioned into entrepreneurship, starting a landscape firm with his son.

A lifelong sports enthusiast, Jim not only loved playing sports but also enjoyed coaching and watching them. He coached his children and later became his grandchildren's biggest fan in their athletic pursuits. Above all, Jim was a man of deep faith, a true prayer warrior who touched many lives along the way.

Upon retiring from Pro Green Landscape Management at the age of 80, Jim and Carolyn, his beloved wife of 60 years, moved to Richmond Hill, Georgia.

Jim is now reunited with his parents, James Clair and Ruby Kistler Jennings, and his beloved grandson, Kade Jennings. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; his sister, Mona Sue Anger; his son, Todd Jennings, and wife, Jalana; his daughter, Tricia Barrett, and husband, Tim; and his grandchildren, Kinsley Jennings Botha and husband, Wihan, Sarah Grace Brodmann and husband, William, and Adeline Barrett, and her fiance Will Immel.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, February 26, at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church Cemetery, Richmond Hill.

Carolyn just found out of Jimmys passing today . My heart is btoken as I remember all the fond memories of Jimmy when I was just a little girl. He took me in and accepted this little step sister into his family and I actually adored him. Many years have gone by but your family remain near and dear in my heart. What a Christian example he always was to me. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. As Suzie told me "we are family". May God give you the comfort and peace that you need in the coming days. Much love ......Charlene

I have a lot of memories growing up on the softball field with Tricia & the Jennings family! Truly...one of the best parts of my childhood! My Dad always talked about the cups of coffee and wonderful conversations they would have at the shop after we all had ventured off to college. Last time I saw Mr. Jennings was at my Dad's funeral. It was great to see him (and Mrs. Jennings) and it brought back many a memory from the "old Norcross days." My heart goes out to all of you during this time. Lifting you all up in prayer for the days ahead. Love- Becky ("Hamilton") Wells
