James Welch Obituary

Welch, James Michael

Rochester: May 20, 1951- July 25, 2014. With his children and sister Lindy by his side, our dearest Jimmy passed after a lifelong battle. There are no words to express how we will miss you. We will miss your kind hearted and gentle soul; you are leaving behind an incomprehensibly large void.

Thank you for blessing our family with two of the greatest children on earth; Tracy and Jamie (Jessica Saner). Thank you for choosing their beautiful mother Karen Kruse (Welch-Whitcolm) who is still a huge part of our family. Thank you for the seven grandchildren you are leaving behind; Brandon, Emmy, Ana, Breanna, Deavon, Jaelyn and Teagan.

Jimmy will be remembered for his sense of humor; his funny poems, stories and jokes never failed to make us laugh. Jimmy loved writing and planned to write a book titled, "Poems I wrote, and why I wrote them". With his humor, it would have been a best seller.

Jimmy was an avid walker; it was not unusual for him to walk up to 10 miles each day. He was a skilled harmonica player, an expert crossword puzzler, and enjoyed watching Jeopardy with his Mother, (he relished in scoring more points than she when they'd watch together).

Our Jimmy was an easy person to be around. He never judged, rarely offered an opinion, and always had something kind to say. Our Jimmy was a compassionate listener.

Jimmy has joined his devoted Mother and Grandmother, Mona Moore and Mary L Flagler Upchurch as well as his Uncle Bill Upchurch and his brother-in-law Leonard Kruze. Besides his children and grandchildren, he leaves two sisters, Cheryl Doberstein and Lindy Kruze (Leonard); three brothers, Michael, Chris, and Terry Welch. He leaves his best friends Nancy Brown, and Pat Holler; his nieces and nephews, Jenny (Zeke Ochs), Jarie, Brandy (Pierre Rochon), Jill, Taylor (Brian Beckler), Donovan, CJ, Luke, Jacque, and Ryan.

Jimmy will finally have peace from the things that plagued him during his life. As his brother in law Leonard said so many times, "Good Job Tony." Services will be private and at the convenience of Jimmy's family.

Not sure what to say?

December 6, 2014

Just missing you. It's been almost 4 and a 1/2 months. That is a long time with no jokes, no poems. I wish you were here. But I am happy you are finally free. You didn't deserve the life long battle you endured and dealt with. How could I even begin to know your struggle with that? Only you knew. You did the best you could do. I was always proud of you, no matter what or where. I love you Jimmy. xoxox Lindy Kruze aka Kelly Welch.

Ditto on the Nancy Brown comment. She has been an angel to my brother Jimmy and to our family as a whole. The most generous, patient, caring woman on earth. We love Nancy very much and thank her from the bottom of our hearts for all she has done for our brother.

Did not get to spend much time with my cousin in his later years. However, when young, I have fond memory's of him. He was one of the funniest, most intelligent people I had ever had the pleasure to know. I will always remember the time that Jim and Michael spent the summer with us. I was a bratty 10 year old, constantly pestering them. To get me to stop they tied me to the apple tree in the backyard and stuffed my mouth full of sourballs. All Jimmy's idea I am sure! May he rest in peace.

What a beautiful tribute to a brother who loved and was loved in return. I did not know him, but by the time I finished his obit felt almost like I had. God bless all of you and know in your hearts that he, as a writer, would have loved every word you wrote!

I will miss you forever my beautiful brother. No words to say how much I loved you. Thank you for being ours. No more pain. Be happy and free. Paint the sky, play us a tune to the blues with that harmonica of yours. Sprinkle little signs for us so we know you are happy. Devotedly, Your sister Lindy
