Chris Handlin Obituary

Christopher Scott Handlin, 62, went peacefully and confidently to his heavenly home Sunday morning, October 9, 2022, in Conroe, Texas

Son of Don Lloyd and Dixie Gates Handlin, he was born on June 17, 1960, in Kermit, Texas.

Chris graduated from Kermit High School in 1978. Senior year, he was the captain of the high school football team and voted as "Most Handsome" of his class. He attended Texas Tech University. While at Texas Tech, he was a member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity.

After college, Chris taught skiing in Ruidoso and Switzerland and shared the road with his father, Don, on their motorcycles. Chris loved life and adventures. He and his dad would take some of the greatest road trips together on their Harley Davidson motorcycles, a mutual love they both shared.

Chris was an entrepreneurial businessman and had a passion for helping others. His passion helped pave the road for his future endeavors, including medical equipment sales in the late 1990's and the opening of B/CS Home Instead Senior Care office with his partner, David Guest, in 2000. They went on to open a companion business, BetaMED. Chris later sold his business which led him to Conroe, where he continued to successfully work in sales.

An active member of The Woodlands Church, Chris spent many years volunteering and serving his community, which he loved dearly. He was known for his big heart, charm and sense of humor. When Chris spoke to you, you saw that twinkle in his eye and he made you feel special and loved.

Chris' greatest joy in his life was his daughter, Avery Handlin. He was a very proud father and his love for her remained constant throughout his life. There was never a time when he was not sharing one of her latest accomplishments or accolades with family and friends.

Chris was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Dixie. He is survived by his daughter, Avery of Kingwood, brother Chip of Dallas, aunt Linda and husband Ross Porter of California, niece Catherine Bankston and husband Drew, nephew Parker Handlin and wife Kelly, nephew Pearson Handlin, cousins Rosalyn Porter, Melinda Barefoot, Dr. Ross Porter and Wes Porter.

A celebration of life will be held for Chris on Thursday, October 20, 2022, at The Woodlands Church at 1:00 pm in the chapel (1 Fellowship Drive, The Woodlands, Tx 77384). At a later date a private graveside service will be held by the family at Moore Memorial Cemetery in Arlington, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, a college trust fund for his daughter, Avery, has been set up. Contributions can be made to her account at First Financial Bank and Trust.

This is really late but I just learned of Chris´ passing. We were fraternity brothers @ Tech (Delta Tau Delta) & lived in Midland at the same time after college. I can say with out risk of superlatives that Chris was one of a kind & the life of any party. From ski trips to beach trips to just hanging out "trips" he was a magnet & a catalyst for a good time. As I write this I´m telling my wife "Handlin stories" & she confessed she always had a silent crush on him. No surprise.
My main regret is not keeping in touch with him in recent years.
Rest in Peace my brother & I hope to see you in the heavenly realms.

I met Chris while living in Lajolla CA. I was having drinks with a friend when another mutual friend says,"You gotta meet this crazy Texan that just moved to town!". He moved in my place that night and stayed on my couch till he got his own crib. The rest is history. One thing about Chris, if you didn´t want to have fun you better steer clear of him. Mark Waters

I loved Chris. He was my friend for so many years! We were able to talk freely about everything and everybody! We would laugh so hard that our faces would turn red!! He was a good friend to have. He loved adventure and always took risks. He always used to say You only live once and what would life be if you didn´t take those risks. He had a kind heart with a wild spirit. Rest well my friend

I met Chris through a friend in the late 90s. We rode motorcycles together and rode to Sturgis, South Dakota one year for that rally. Also, we took several golf trips together out of state. He was one funny son of a gun and I always enjoyed seeing him coming. He loved his mother and dad and daughter Avery who was born about the same time as my oldest granddaughter. Our ongoing argument, all in fun, was which one was better looking.

He never was the same after a 4 wheeler accident several years back and it seemed this would lead to his end. I´m deeply saddened that it did. He was a friend and a big personality in my life and I will miss him.

I have known Chris as long as I can remember. We grew up together on Waco St. Don and my dad shared an office for many years. My family went to Ruidoso to the Handlin cabin many times. My family moved to Wichita Falls while I was in 7th grade but Chris and I kept in touch through the years, when he was at Texas Tech, lived in Amarillo and College Station. He was a great friend.

I have known Chris since we were 4 years old. We went through all 12 grades of school together. We have stayed in contact over the years. He always said I was his contact for everything that happened in Kermit, Tx. Chris I will always miss those random calls. Keep dreaming big.
