Clyde Conroe Obituary

Clyde Richard Miller peacefully ended his battle with cancer on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at home, with wife, Kathy holding his hand. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin and friend who would do anything and everything for those he cared for and he fought very hard to stay with them.

Clyde was welcomed to the world by loving parents, Wanda and Bill Miller in Corpus Christi, Texas on April 11, 1955. He grew up in a wonderfully mixed life of music, thanks to his mother, boats and beaches, thanks to his father and the great outdoors, thanks to his extended Miller and Cline families. As an only child he loved spending time with his cousins, something that continued until his passing. He attended and was a graduate of Calallen High School, where he met his lifelong sweetheart, Kathy O'Donnell. Clyde won numerous awards playing the trumpet and was the First Place Tenor of the All State Choir in 1972. In September of 1974, he and Kathy were married; this union blessed them with two amazing sons, Alan Richard Miller and Jeffrey Scott Miller. Clyde loved being a dad. He loved taking his kids camping and on vacations. Throughout their lives, he always made sure to be available for whatever they needed. Everything from showing up to their theater performances to helping them move out for the first (or second or third) time. His love for his kids was never in doubt, and he always supported them in any way he could. Sitting on the front porch, talking about the world and sharing a drink was a sure favorite. When family cookouts took place, you could guarantee his famous beans would make an appearance.

Clyde had several different careers; tankerman, deckhand and tugboat captain in Corpus Christi, oilfield and bulk trucking terminal dispatcher and manager in Houston and Conroe. He could work around the clock and still have time for his family and friends. He and Kathy loved road trips, to Corpus Christi and New Mexico to visit family and to the Texas Hill Country and the beaches in Eastern Alabama for getaways.

In 2001, while driving to a job site, he saw miniature donkeys in a field; this chance sighting led to Enrique joining the Miller family, with Charlotte, Celeste and Julio to follow and several years later, Poncho. Clyde and Enrique have a wall full of ribbons and awards from numerous livestock shows and rodeos, such as the State Fair of Texas and the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo where Enrique and Julio won first place and a much-coveted belt buckle.

In 2015, Clyde's world took an amazing turn with the birth of granddaughter, Jade. He loved being a grandpaw and was doubly blessed with the birth of grandson, Simon in 2018. Even after his diagnosis, he looked forward to the weekends the grands spent at Grandma and Grandpaw's house, making popcorn and watching Scooby Doo movies, eating lunch at Jason's Deli, spending time outside feeding the donkeys. Jade and Grandpaw always cooked fresh green beans and Simon had fun sneaking up on Grandpaw and surprising him with the hiney-getter. Even with his many hospital and rehab center stays, he found a way to share lunches and dinners with Alan and Stacey, Jeff and Michelle, Jade and Simon.

Clyde was preceded in death by his parents, William Richard Miller and Wanda Cline Miller; mother-in-law, Jan O'Donnell; father-in-law, Jerry O'Donnell; baby sister-in-law, Kearney O'Donnell Rogers; and nephew, Benjamin Kocurek. He is survived by his forever loving wife, Kathy; son, Alan Richard Miller and wife, Stacey Oakley-Triller; son, Jeffrey Scott Miller and wife, Michelle; grandchildren, Jade and Simon; sister-in-law, Kelly Gonzalez and husband, Alfonso; brother-in-law, Patrick O'Donnell and wife, Elizabeth; sister-in-law, Kerry O'Donnell and husband, Greg Hanevelt; aunts, Vernie Miller and Barbara Miller; aunt and uncle, Barbara and Leroy Miller; and numerous cousins; nieces and nephews and friends.

Clyde had several amazing care teams at M.D. Anderson The Woodlands and the Medical Center, Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital in Shenandoah and The Woodlands, Enhabit Home Health and Therapy and Enhabit Hospice. His family is especially grateful to Dr. Greg Elders, who first diagnosed his cancer so he could begin treatment, Dr. Zeyad A Metwalli, M.D. Anderson, who performed the amazing T.I.P.S procedure which extended his life another thirteen months, nurse Candace Halberg, M.D. Anderson, whose special care was a constant source of comfort for Clyde and Kathy, Physical Therapist Jason Pantig, Enhabit Home Therapy, for offering him the chance to stretch his muscles and his wings and to Enhabit Hospice Aide Jo Smith, who put a smile on his face each time she walked through the door.

Clyde donated his body to the University of Texas - Galveston Willed Body Program so he could help train new doctors to take care of other dads and grandpas. His body may be in Galveston but his love, spirit and smile will be with us all forever.

Too bad Clyde never wanted to meet his first grand child. He sure did miss out on a lovely, talented, intelligent individual who has been nothing but a blessing to everyone around her.

I am truly honored to have taken care of Clyde. He was such an inspiration to me. Even when he didn´t want to do anything he tried his hardest to make it happen. We could all learn from that. To his beautiful wife, thank you for allowing me to come into your home and give him care. The love you both have for each other clearly showed. May peace be with you always. Jo Smith
