Evansville, Indiana

Raymond C. Abbott, 92, of Evansville, passed away Thursday, September 22, 2016, at the Evansville Protestant Home. He was born June 25, 1924, in Evansville, to the late Arthur and Mary (Reiter) Abbott.

He was the husband of LaVonda (Kerwick) Abbott, whom he had been married to for 70 years. He was a Navy Veteran of World War II and served as an Evansville Firefighter for 33 years. He was also employed by Commercial Services for 20 years. Raymond was a member of the Indiana Firefighters Association and Retired Police and Firefighters Association. He was a charter member of the Inland Yacht Club and served as its first secretary.

Raymond was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Arthur "Buddy" Abbott, Jr.; sisters, Mildred Walker and Delores Lockhart; son, Larry Ray Abbott; and daughter-in-law, Nancy Abbott.

He is survived by his wife, LaVonda; son, David J. Abbott and wife, Kathy; granddaughters, Christy Alvey and husband, John, and Julia Condict and husband, Curt, of Zionsville; grandsons, Andy Abbott and fiancé, Melissa Seitz, Tony Abbott and wife, Tammy, and Alex Abbott and wife, Erin; great-granddaughters, Brooke and Alli Abbott, Elise Condict, and Grace and Elizabeth Abbott; great-grandsons, Arrick, Nick, Addison, and Anthony John Abbott, Jacob and Joel Alvey, Austin Abbott, and Grant Condict; step-grandson, Ethan Austin; step-granddaughter, Shelby Ennis; and several nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank the Evansville Protestant Home staff for their wonderful care and service.

Funeral Services will be 10:00 AM Monday, September 26, 2016, at Alexander East Chapel, officiated by Rev. Kenneth Olson and the Evansville Fire Department Honor Guard, with burial in Alexander Memorial Park. Friends may visit Monday from 9:00 AM until service time at the funeral home.

I am so sorry for your lost. Mr. Abbott has did some commendable things. Those jobs that he had weren't easy either but it showed that he was a humble person. At Psalms 37: 9-11 it tells of a time when we would be able to enjoy a world full of peace.
