Robert Romain Obituary

Robert "Bob" Charles Romain, Jr.
Evansville, IN
Robert "Bob" Charles Romain, Jr. 64, of Evansville, passed away peacefully at home with his family at his side on Monday, July 8, 2013. He was born to Robert and Betty (Coyle) Romain on March 22, 1949.
He graduated from Harrison High School in 1967 and received his Bachelors and Masters degrees in education from Indiana State University. He taught at Central and Bosse High Schools.
Bob also enjoyed working in construction and building many homes around the city. He was also instrumental in the building of the Family Life Center at Central United Methodist Church.
Bob loved his family and enjoyed nothing more than to be with them, whether playing ball, playing cards, or watching the Detroit Tigers.
Bob loved his church and was a lifelong member of Central United Methodist Church. He was an active member of the Compass Sunday School Class. For years, if something needed to be fixed at the church or snow needed to be removed it was Bob they would call. He would quietly be there no matter what else he was doing. There are not enough words to describe the loving heart of Bob. He was a kind, self sacrificial and giving man who will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.
Bob was preceded in death by his father, Robert C. Romain, Sr. and his brother-in-law, Mark Boylls.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Linda Harrison Romain; daughter, Catherine Ferris; sons, David Romain of Houston, Texas and Daniel Romain; mother, Betty Romain; sisters, Linda Harris (Daryel), Gloria Millay (Steve) and Pam Boylls; brother, Ronald Romain (Connie); grandsons, Cole, Conner, and Cameron Ferris; brothers and sisters in law, William and (Susan) Harrison, (Jerry) and Darlene Madden and (Jack) and Susan Burgdorf. He also has many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews who loved him greatly.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 am, Friday, July 12, 2013 at Central United Methodist Church, 300 Mary St., Evansville with Pastor Jack Scott officiating. Burial will be in Park Lawn Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 pm until 8 pm, Thursday, July 11, 2013 at Boone Funeral Home - East Chapel, 5330 Washington Ave., Evansville and again from 9 am until time of service at 10 am, Friday at the church.
Memorial Contributions may be made to Central United Methodist Church Family Life Center.

Hard to believe it's been 10 years since God took Bob home. He was a great guy, always had a smile on his face and willing to help in a minute. Fly high my friend I know you are watching over your family.

Everyone has that one special teacher in their lives that really make a differance, Mr. Romain was mine. He made a big impact in my life, always had a smile on his face, and words of advice and encouragement. I met him in Metals class at Central, 1973. Even helped him roof a few houses on the side. Always respected him and always will. Our prayers are with his family, thanks for sharing him. GOD BLESS !

The day I met Bob was a bright sunny summer day and we had finished our first practice of summer league baseball. That night my father asked me to tell him about my day and about the team; my responce was; I met a player named Bob and he was great...always smiling and quite the hitter! Our paths crossed again at Harrison, teaching and in other ways BOB NEVER CHANGED AT ALL!!! What a genuine person. Heaven has picked up a great player and an angel of a guy!!! Sincerely, Jon Siau

As I sit hear and write this, I can't help from crying tears of sorrow for this sweet man. I feel so blessed to have gotten to know and spend much time with Bob in the last years of his life. I got to know well, this man, so loved by many. He would always have that smile on his face and many other facial expressions I loved to watch when spending time together. I am beyond thankfuk I had the opportunity to see him one last time before he passed, love on him, and touch that soft shiny silver hair of his. I will miss him even more so but I am so glad We will see him again in Heaven.
To Linda, you were so faithful and so good to take care of him during this time. God will surely honor you for your dedication.
Praying for you all.
Much love to you.

I've known the Bob and Romain families since I was a small child. To say they are a family of amazing, wonderful people is an understatement. My dad and Bob were close friends for many, many years, and I know he will be sorely missed by my father and everyone else who had the pleasure of knowing him. Linda, Cathy, Dave, Daniel and the rest of the family - my heart is hurting with you and I will be constantly praying for your peace and comfort. I love you all!

My Uncle Bob was indeed one of the nicest men possible. He always had a smile on his face, and can't ever remember a complaint coming out of his mouth. One thing I'll never forget that I'll miss forever, when I showed up at the door and he would open it and see me and say " oh not you" and would close the door on me. Yes, he opened it back up. But since I can remember he did that every time we saw each other. I will miss him so much. I did get to hug him the day I was heading back to Phoenix, just last Tuesday.A hug I didn't want to let go of. I know he will always be in our hearts and his smile never forgotten. But there will never be another him. I'm so grateful for having him as an uncle in the first place, and for as long as I did. He touched everyone's life in a positive way that knew him. Without writing a book, please remember none of us will be here forever, please cherish every moment with the ones u love. And the little things are what you'll miss the most. Uncle Bob, you'll always have a huge part in my heart. I promise to look after your family and remind the little ones how wonderful their grandpa was. I love u, and if and when I have kids I'm gonna shut the door on their face in memory of u!!! You'll always be with us, and you finally get to skip out on the farm!!! Forever loved, and always remembered and missed!

To My Prayer Warrior & Friend Linda, Cathy, David, Daniel, and to the Romaine Family: When my limited mortal words fail me, I must go to the scriptures. Psalms 30:5 states that "...weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning." Romans 8:28 tells us, "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose." Linda, you were a faithful, attentive wife who truly lived out your wedding vows. I'm so glad you took Bob to Houston (in spite of the challenges) to visit with David. You hung in there, girl, for better for worse, in sickness and in health, for richer for poorer, until Bob was called to his heavenly home. My humble prayers are with you, your children, and the Romaine family. I thank you for your friendship and support in my life, and I'll see you at the visitation and the funeral. Let's do lunch again soon!
