Wayne Salmon Obituary

Wayne Eugene Salmon

Evansville, Ind. - Wayne Eugene Salmon.

Wayne was born of Jimmie Salmon and Hazel Corn Salmon on February 4, 1934. He left his temporary address for his permanent address with the Lord on October 25, 2019.

His life was one of faith and work. He was respected and loved by family, associates and friends. Wayne knew the Lord and was a member of Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church in Knoxville, TN and St. Peters Evangelical Lutheran Church in Stendal, IN.

He loved God's world and was thankful for autumn colors, winter's chill and snow, spring flowers and budding trees, and summer roses and sunshine. He worked throughout the entirety of his life. Upon graduation with a Bachelor's degree from Indiana State University, he was drafted into the 5th Infantry Division and served in the Armed Forces from July, 1956 through June, 1958 where he was assigned as a teacher in Germany. Upon being discharged, he married Joan Stergar on August 15,1959.

He finished formal education with a Master's degree also from Indiana State University. He taught many subjects and coached basketball in Evansville, Indiana, took a position with the Indiana Department of Instruction and followed by working as a textbook representative for Scott Foresman where he finished as a "legend".

Wayne loved tennis, walking, family and meeting people.

He will be deeply missed by his wife Joan of sixty years; daughter, Hope Gosselin, son-in-law, Rob Gosselin; son Mike Salmon and daughter-in-law, Mel; and son, David Salmon; nine grandsons, one granddaughter, one great-granddaughter, his brother Harold Salmon and wife, Mary; his cousin Dallas Salmon; his brother-in-law Tom Stergar and wife Marcia; nieces, nephews, friends, former students and athletes.

Memorial services are planned for November 23, 2019 at 3 PM in the Chapel at Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church in Knoxville, TN.

Wayne was a fellow member of our Thursday morning Bible study at Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church. He was a great friend and someone you could count and depend on for what ever he said. A great man of God who is finally in the manifest presence of Jesus. Condolences to Jo with God's blessings, peace and strength.

Wayne and I shared an office (known as the fish bowl) when we were teachers in Bamberg in the 50's. On of his first classes was made up of senior NCOs who let Wayne know that they all greatly outranked him. He very firmly informed them that in the classroom he was in command! They obeyed and like all who met him became good friends. They nick-named him "our little Colonel". What a guy! What a privilege it was to know him and be his friend!

I met Wayne in 1956 at a college mixer and became friends . A great guy. A teammate, frat brother and someone you could depend on. Lost track after graduation but not forgotten. I am sure he will be missed greatly by family and friends. We did have many happy moments in college.

I have known Wayne since we were youngsters in Evansville. We played basketball together at Evansville Central, and we were counselors in the same cabin at Camp Carson in Princeton, IN. He was a very good athlete and one of my best friends.
So sorry for your loss.

Coach, You left a great impact on my life. Your gentle, calming nature was just what we preteen boys needed. You were a great athlete (Evansville Central HS and Indiana State University), great teacher, and coach. Your life lessons will be with us forever. My blessings to Jo, the children, and grandchildren. GO HORNETS!
