Gregory Taylor Obituary

Gregory Alan Taylor, 55 of Crestline, passed on Friday, August 22, 2025, at The Ohio State University James Cancer Center. Greg was born on December 4, 1969, in Crestline where he would spend his life. He graduated with the class of 1988. Greg had many athletic accolades during his high school years, and remained a competitor throughout his life, whether he was playing or coaching. Greg attended The Ohio State University and received his Associates Degree in Criminal Justice. He transferred to Baptist Bible College in Springfield, MO., where he graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Pastoral Care. He received his Masters Degree from Ashland Theological Seminary in 2007, and immediately went into the mental health field and counseling in a variety of settings. Greg spent more than 20 years working for the State of Ohio, while also providing private counseling in the mental health and drug rehabilitation fields. He was a strong proponent of recovery and 12-step programs. Greg was a lifetime fan of the Cleveland Browns, no matter how often he stated he was going to pick a different team. He was an avid athlete and a fan of many sports, especially when his kids where playing. He excelled in his professional career, and was well-liked by so many who worked with him. His current position was Department of Mental Heath Administrator at Mansfield Correctional Institution where he dedicated many years of service. Greg left behind his wife, Debbie, of 21 years, and their 3 beloved children: Claira, Kaity, and Sam, as well as his fur babies: Lucy, Winston, and Ollie, who loved their "daddy" deeply. His parents: John and Thelma Taylor, are deeply grieving his loss, as well as his brother, Kevin (Darlene) Taylor, niece Emma, and nephew Kyle, nephew John and his sons Bentley, and Eli, aunts: Joie Fulton, and Jessie Hurst, and many cousins and so many friends and co-workers. Greg loved the Lord even if people weren't always his "thing". He could engage, and interact in a way that made people feel so comfortable, even complete strangers. He could surprise people with his witty, and sometimes sharp sense of humor. Greg was preceded in death by his brother: Eddie; paternal grandparents: Noah and Clara Taylor; maternal grandparents: Bud "Poppy" and Lavina "Mommy" Reynolds; aunts: Betty (Reynolds) Smith, and Golda (Reynolds) Lee; and father-in-law: Ronald Baker. Friends may call on Thursday, August 28, 2025, from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at the Gompf Funeral Service-Crestline Chapel; 223 W. Main St. Crestline. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, August 29. 2025, at 11:00am with Pastor Ron Parsons officiating, burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery.
