Joseph Barley Obituary

Joseph Omar Barley, 70, died peacefully in his sleep on January 18, 2024 at his home in Crestview, Florida after a long battle with cancer. Joe was born June 5, 1953 in Bonifay, Florida to Aileen Pond Barley, And Carl Barley. Our Dad, Carl died in 1967 and Aileen Barley died in 2013.

Joe was a general contractor in Crestview and a member of Crestview First Methodist Church

Joe loved spending time in the mountains of North Georgia at the family cabins. We spent many summers in the mountains.

Joe was an avid reader and learner. He was very proud of his 20,000+ book library and spent time with his books as his health declined.

Joe and Bebing (Centene) were married in 1987. They always enjoyed traveling the world.

Joe, Bebing and our Mom were members of the original Sister City delegation of people from Crestview to Noirmoutier, France in 1995.

Through the years, Joe and our Mom hosted exchange students. One of the students, Folko Wohlang from Germany, remained in contact with Joe through the years.

Joe is survived by his loving wife Cecile Bebing Barley of Crestview, Florida; Sisters, Susan Young (Missouri City, Texas) Nephews David Young and Daniel Young, (Austin, Texas); Mary Shaver, (Orland Park, Illinois.) Ray Pond (Nancy) Tallahassee, Florida, Richard Pond, Sneads, Florida, Loni (Murray) Dennis, Tomball, Texas. Sister in laws Jean Centeno, Snow Reyes, (California); Josie Centeno, (Philippines); Joey Centeno (Chicago); Gigi Centeno and Jerry Centeno, Jr (Philippines); Nieces Grace Florendo (California), Dr. Antonette Marie Guerrero (United Kingdom), Anne Centeno (Abu Dhabi). Many, Many Cousins on all sides of the family, and friends locally and around the world. We thank all for their loving support.

Joe loved his cats and was very attached to George and Mary.

He spent many years volunteering in Crestview feeding the homeless and providing support to homeless persons in Crestview. Joe also spent many years volunteering for Crestview Area Shelter for the Homeless, The Association for Retarded Citizens and Horizon of Okaloosa County.

Donations in his name will be graciously accepted by:

Crestview Area Shelter for the Homeless, 120 Duggan Ave, Crestview, FL 32536 either by check or paypal@crestviewshelter. Or First Methodist of Crestview.

A memorial service is being planned for a later date. Joseph Omar Barley
