Alice Weir
Alice (Bablonka) Weir, 89, beloved wife of the late John H. Weir, passed into eternal rest on May 23, 2022. Born in New Haven, CT on April 19, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Helen (Murray) Bablonka and was a lifelong resident of Shelton.
Alice graduated from St Mary's High School in New Haven. She had fun working side-by-side with her aunt Margaret early on in life at the Lafayette School Cafeteria. She enjoyed the friendships she had established while working for SNET for 22 years (Derby, New Haven, Wallingford and Waterbury) as a telephone operator (jokingly referring to herself as a "call girl") starting on the old toll switchboards. Alice was a hard worker throughout her life. She was a very generous hostess, enjoyed crocheting afghans for gifts, researching family history, camping with John, had a fine sense of fashion, loved shopping for a bargain at thrift shops, wearing leopard prints, painted nails, flashy jewelry and had a sweet tooth for chocolate with nuts. Alice always kept a beautiful home and especially enjoyed decorating for the holidays.
Alice is the beloved mother of Mitch Kopec, Jr., Richard Kopec and his wife Deidra, Susan Jutcawitz and her husband Randy, and Heidi Reardon and her husband John. She is the stepmother of John Weir III and his wife Lisa, and Kevin Weir. Grandchildren, Kelsey, Brian, Mallory, Cassidy, Sean, and step-grandchildren, Autumn, John IV, Chelsea, and Katie, who all brought much happiness to her life. She also leaves her sister, Marie Napychank; and brother-in-law, Michael; brother, Joseph Bablonka, Jr.; and sisters-in-law, Jean and June Bennet; several nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
The family would like to thank the entire staff of Shelton Lakes Nursing Home for the care and compassion given to Alice during her time there.
Friends are invited to greet the family at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Road, Shelton, on Friday from 9:15 to 10:15 AM. Her procession will leave the parlor at 10:30 AM for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM, St. Margaret Mary Church, 50 Donovan Lane, Shelton. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Shelton.
