I first heard about Drew a few years back while researching Reliability to create training materials. His simplified and beautiful equation for creating Median Ranks which included censored data made it not only easy to explain what I wanted the engineers to do, but also why. They got to create their own data for a Weibull plot and recognize the inherent delight in his equation. I came back to do further reading today, and wondered what the abbreviation AVCO/LYCOMING meant in his mention in Dr. Robert Abernethy's book Weibull...which lead me to want to read his work directly and perhaps contact him...which lead me to this sad revelation that I missed him by 3 days. What a loss for us all. From his obituary I am thinking I would have had a lot of laughs with this man. I'll be sure to mention his passing when I use his formula in class.

Our condolences and thanks to having known Drew as an instructor at BEI and a very nice person, often seeing him at Galaxy Diner.
