Obit TextGeraldine Kremer, 95, of Philadelphia and Farmington passed away on December 20, 2013, after a long illness. "Geri" was born in Vidukle, Lithuania on December 25, 1918, the fourth and youngest child of Ralph and Helen Shapiro. She immigrated with her family to Allentown, Pennsylvania in 1921, graduating from William Allen High School. Following graduation she studied at the New York School of Interior Design. Geri moved to Chicago where she and her first husband, Bruce Billian, raised two daughters. While in Chicago, Geri was an active volunteer for Temple Beth Emet, the Girl Scouts of America and Ort America. She enrolled in the Pope Cooking School where she expanded her culinary skills. In 1968, following divorce, she married Howard Kremer, an internist in Philadelphia. In her new home, her community interests expanded as a member of the Women's Auxiliary of the University of Pennsylvania Hospital and she became chair of the Women's Auxiliary of Graduate Hospital. She was honored for her leadership role in establishing "The Fair in the Square," an annual hospital fundraiser held in Philadelphia's Rittenhouse Square. Howard and Geri Kremer moved to Village Gate In Farmington to be close to family in 2004. Geri was a loving mother, aunt, grandmother and great grandmother known for her sense of humor, community volunteerism and devotion to her family. She is survived by her children, stepchildren and their families: Cathey Billian of New York City, Cyndi Billian Stern and Alan Stern of Farmington; Vivian Kremer, David Kremer and Marla Miller of San Francisco; Matthew Kremer and Barbara Craig of Philadelphia; and grandchildren Michael Kremer, Caroline Kremer, Margaret Kremer and David Kremer, Jordan Stern, Adam Stern and Michele Katz and great grandchildren Miriam and Eliana Stern. The blended family remains close, having become one through the love of Howard and Geri. Donations can be sent to Vision Health International at www.visionhealth.org.
