Janice Curtiss Obituary

Janice McLean Curtiss
Janice Abigail McLean Curtiss, age 96, of Shelton entered into her eternal rest by natural causes on Saturday, March 20, 2021 at Griffin Hospital with her loving family by her side. Mrs. Curtiss was born in Derby, CT, on December 3, 1924, daughter of the late Harry G. and Helen Drew McLean. Very dear to her was her step mother, the late Charlotte Bassett McLean. Janice was the devoted wife of James G. Curtiss III for 50 years. She was a lifelong Shelton resident and a graduate of both Shelton High School and Booth and Bayliss Secretarial School. She was secretary for Woods Lightning Protection Co. of Shelton until her retirement at the age of 92. Together with her husband, she was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Shelton where she was a deaconess, teacher, soprano soloist, choir member, part time organist, and member of the prayer support group. Most of all, she cherished spending time with her family. Janice was the beloved mother of Cynthia Curtiss Tsianco and Drew McLean Curtiss and his wife Nancy, loving grandmother of Jennifer Curtiss Nickle and her husband James, Janice Curtiss Koch and her husband John, Nathan Tsianco and Matthew Tsianco, and great-grandmother of Julia Nickle, Jamison Nickle and Jack Koch. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Janice was predeceased by three brothers, Alan D., Russell J., and Harry D. McLean. Cindy and Drew express their extreme gratitude to Nancy Curtiss for her work and efforts in the care of her mother-in-law. Special thanks extended to Janice's caregivers- Barbara Schwindeman, Julie Hadstedt and Gerry Anderson for their care, affection and efforts beyond the call of duty. Due to the current pandemic, her funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to First Baptist Church, 178 Leavenworth Rd., Shelton, CT 06484. The Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Rd., Shelton has been entrusted with her arrangements. Friends may leave condolences at www.riverviewfh.com.

Not many people were as memorable and treasured as Jan. She was indeed very special, and always brightened my day. Sorry to hear she is gone.
