Leo Waters Obituary

Leo J. Waters
It is with deep love and sadness that we announce the death of Leo Joseph Waters, who died peacefully, surrounded by family, on July 29, 2019 at the age of 84. Leo Was born in 1934 in Chicago to Dorothy (Harrington) and Leo J. Waters, Sr. He was raised in Port Washington, NY, and attended La Salle Military Academy. He graduated from Fairfield University in 1958, and upon graduation was drafted into the United States Army, where he served and was honorably discharged in 1960. Right before entering the Army, Leo married his college sweetheart, Kathleen (Kathy) Burgess, and they have been married for 61 beautiful years. He went to work on Wall Street, first at Eastman Dillon Union Securities, and then on to a long, distinguished career in financial services and trading stocks, ultimately trading on his own. He and Kathy raised two wonderful children, Elizabeth (Beth) and Leo Joseph III (L.J.). He was a longtime member of Westhampton Country Club, a course that he loved to play and where he was a senior club champion. He resided in Jupiter, Florida for over twenty years, where he enjoyed fishing and golfing, and also spent many years in the wonderful home they built in Shelter Island, NY. He served on the Board of Trustees at Fairfield University, as well as the Board of Directors at Long Island Savings Bank and Astoria Federal Savings and Loan. He lived a blessed and charmed life with Kathy, and they were inseparable until the very end. Leo was predeceased by his parents, his sisters Carol Malone and Barbara Murray, and his son L.J. He is survived by his loving wife Kathy, his devoted daughter Beth and son-in-law Kevin Kells, his three cherished grandchildren whom he loved dearly, Caitlin, Liam and Emmet, his sister Patricia Neville of Cotuit, Massachusetts, and many beloved nieces and nephews. He deeply adored three things in life: his family, golf and the stock market. Leo was loved by all who were lucky enough to meet him and get a big hug from him. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, July 31, 2019 from 4-8 p.m. in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road, in Fairfield Center. His funeral Mass will take place on Thursday at 10 a.m. directly at St. Anthony Padua Church, 143 South Pine Creek Road, Fairfield, CT. Private burial will take place in the Westhampton Beach Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to: The Dementia Society of America (https://www.dementiasociety.org/).
