I am so sorry to hear of Marissa's passing. Marissa and I were BVS volunteers in Europe (I was in Belfast while she was in Holland) and then I had the pleasure of celebrating her beautiful wedding in Connecticut with her family and friends. She was truly a blessing and a very special woman. My deepest condolences are with Hans and her family.

Hans, Mr. and Mrs. Irwin:

While no words can erase your grief, I hope there is some comfort in knowing that Marissa touched many people in so many positive ways, and that she will not be forgotten.

I met Marissa through the Beloit College Alumni Group in Washington, D.C. She and I were part of the original planning and organizing team for this group. I was immediately impressed by her open friendliness, her kindness, and her eagerness to contribute.

Although I've only known her for a few years, she left an indelible impression on me. I am shocked and saddened by her premature death.

I wish you strength and courage at this difficult time.

Sincerely yours,

Stephanie Ko

Dear Hans, Mr. and Mrs. Irwin and Family: While I have only had the pleasure of Marissa's company on several occasions, she left a very remarkable impression on me and I understood instantly how special she was to everyone who had the fortune of meeting her. Please accept my deepest condolences for your loss.

Dear Hans, Mr & Mrs. Irwin,

Please except my heart felt sympathy. Marissa & I were best of friends in high school. Eventhough we lost touch through out the years I would still think of her frequently. I have shared many memories of her with my daughter. She touched my life and I am truly saddened by this.

I only had the pleasure of meeting Marissa once, but she is one of the most memorable people I have ever met. I hope that your family will take great comfort that Marissa touched so many people in such a short time on earth than most do in a life time.

We are incredibly sad at Marissa's passing but ever so grateful that our paths crossed in 1990 at the BVS House in Southeast. Marissa was a great friend who challenged me to think and act about things that mattered. Everytime I go to the trash can I say to myself, "would Marissa approve of me putting this here or should it go in the recycling bin."

We loved her and will miss her. Our thoughts are with Hans and her family.

Dear Hans, parents, sisters, and other family members,

My sincere condolences. It will be so hard not to be able to pick up the phone and hear her cheery voice. Marissa was an admirable and dear friend, whose joyous spirit will always remain among us.
