BROPHY Matthew T. Brophy, age 43, of Fairfield, (formerly of Beverly, Mass.) died Thursday, January 5, 2006, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the loving husband of Korey J. (Carmer) and the proud father of Matthew T. (12) and William V. (nine). Born in Beverly, on October 30, 1962, to Virginia and the late Charles J. Matt was well known in the executive clothing industry and had a successful sales career with Gant, Greg Norman and recently with Como Sport. Matt was truly loved and respected as a coach by both parents and players alike. Matt took great pride in his family and pleasure in spending time with those he loved and will be sadly missed by all whose lives he so deeply touched. Dear Korey, Aunt Paulie, Charlie, Chris & Michael,

I was so saddened to hear the news of Matt's passing. The last time I saw Matt was in September of 1988, on the ferry from Nantucket. He was with Korey and they'd recently moved to Chicago (I think). Matt beamed with happiness on that sunny day. While I'd heard that smile had fadded as he battled with cancer, that's the Matt I'll always remember...My heart goes out to all of you and to Matt's children during this incredibly sad time. I'm trusting that you will be surrounded by loving family and good friends to help you through, and trusting that Matt is now in a place where he can smile again. With love and prayers, Christine

Dear Korey,

I have been scanning family photos onto the computer and came across the family reunion in '88 that we had at our home in Bedford, NH. I remember Matt bringing you to meet us all and his telling me that "she is a keeper." Well, you sure brought love into Matt's life and I know that the time was much too short, but you and the boys will have wonderful memories for a lifetime.

We are so very sorry and we hope that the support of your friends and families will help to ease the sorrow.

Sending our love to you and yours,

Brenda and Jack Arnold

I grew up next door to Matt on Essex Street and often think of the cold winter mornings when we would get up before school and go over to Kelleher's Pond to spread a fresh layer of water over the frozen ice, so that it would be just right for our afternoon game.

My family's prayers are with Matt's loved ones during this difficult time.

Dear Korey,Matt,Will,Aunt Ginny,Charles,Chris and Mike

I was deeply saddened to learn of Matts'passing. He fought a courageous battle with grace and dignity. I have wriiten a poem which I hope will bring some comfort to you all in this time of great sorrow.

JUST YOUR TIME TO GO

When the time has come, and God calls you home

The tears they start to flow, it isn't your not happy here

It's just your time to go.

You'll miss the family that you love, the friends you saw each day

The memories we will always have, for they're in our hearts to stay.

The heavens they surround you, and the angels sing to you

God holds you in the palm of his hand, your inner peace shines through

You took the time to enjoy yourself, and you savored every day

For life we know is far to short, and time just ticks away.

So until we meet again, yes in your heart you know

It wasn't you weren't happy here,

It's just your time to go.

Dear Brophy Family - Matt enjoyed a tremendous reputation at Norwich. And while I didn't know him very well during our years in Vermont, I do know some of his closest friends, whom I consider champions of the family unit and pillars of the community. Matt maintained great company. My thoughts are with you.

Dear Korey, Matt & Will,

I know that you know how special Matt was as a Husband and Dad and hope to share a few memories of a Great Man and Friend. When I first met him at college besides being physically large and strong he impressed me a being a person of great character. You could not help but respect him and I especially appreciated his sense of humor at the military school. Playing racquetball, skiing or having a beer or two “Broph” was a guy you wanted to hang around with. Meeting you in Ft Lauderdale Korey with Broph seems like only yesterday and he obviously met his soul mate then. Words always fall short in expressing sympathy but I am deeply sorry for your great loss and you all are in our prayers and thoughts.

Matt is the most courageous man I have ever met. He will be truely missed even though his presence will be in your heart and mind each and every day. Korey, even though Matt's life was cut way too short, together you built a great foundation of life for your boys. One built on courage, inspiration, joy and dedication to and love of family. We are so saddened by this great loss to you and all that knew Matt. He was such a wonderful man, in so many ways. His hockey sense and knowledge showed through to all the kids that he coached. We hope that you can find some comfort in knowing how much he was loved by all who knew him. We wish for you all of the strength and comfort in this time of sorrow. With our deepest sympathy,

I remember a wonderful couple named Charles and Virginia Brophy, and this was at Beverly Hospital in June 1957 or September 1958,on the maternity floor. I believe it was September 1958. They had just had a boy, and were as excited as though this was their first child. I have never forgotten them. I offer my sincere condolences to all of the family. There are no adequate words to sing the praise of our beautiful Matt. He is a treasure to us all, and although I have not seen him since the summer of 2001, he has always been in my thoughts and prayers. You didn't have to be next to Matt to feel close to him. Dear Korey and Family,

I just finished reading the beautiful obituary of your beloved husband, Matt, and I wanted to express to you, on behalf of the entire Archer Family, how sorry we are for your loss. Without ever having known Matt, the moving and heartfelt description of his life and loves left me in tears and so full of sorrow for you and your little boys. It is too difficult to understand why young and vibrant people are taken from loved-ones. We can only honor their lives by acknowledging our own health as a blessing, cherish our loved-ones, and express that love and appreciation every single day. I am sure Matt's spirit and wonderful qualities will continue to live and grow within your boys, providing you with comfort and a constant reminder of a profound love that will never die.
