Patrick Harvey Bowen of Bridgeport, CT passed away Tuesday, January 30, 2018 of complications from Parkinson's disease at age 78. He was born in Cincinnati, OH to A. Vernon and Elsie Bowen and lived much of his life in Old Greenwich. He attended Stanford University and received a BA from Marietta College, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, a JD from Duke University School of Law, and an MBA from Columbia University Business School. In his career as a corporate attorney he served in several roles with Kennecott Copper, was General Counsel at Allied Stores, and was in private practice. Another love and profession was as a musician and bandleader. He was active in the local musicians union. He lead several bands, most notably the South Avenue Society Jazz Band. He played tuba and string bass with many groups, including the Great Atlantic Jazz Band, the Easton Banjo Society, the Bob Button Orchestra and the Norwalk Symphony. He spent many years assembling and recreating traditional band arrangements, his collection of which was donated to Rutgers University's Institute of Jazz Studies several years ago. He loved a wide range of music, from Dixieland to opera.
Pat is remembered for his sense of humor and storytelling. He is truly someone about whom no one has an unkind word. He loved cats and was always happiest with one sleeping by his side. He is survived by his wife Karen Hunter, his son Harvey Bowen, his daughter-in-law Kimberly Bowen, and grandchildren Claire and Irene Bowen. A remembrance event is planned for later this year.
