Edna H. Henchy, 100, of Stratford, CT, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2026 at her own home in the care of her loving family and angelic caregivers. Edna was born on November 21, 1925, in Bridgeport, CT, the 6th of 13 children of the late Michael and Elizabeth Healy. She was the beloved wife and soulmate of the late John J. Henchy.

Edna entered the Sisters of Mercy as Sr. Marie Elizabeth in 1949 for a time which she declared to be "very, very happy years." She earned her undergraduate degree at St. Joseph College in West Hartford, CT. and became a lifelong educator whose devotion to learning and faith shaped the lives of countless children and families. Edna dedicated her career to children in many Connecticut Catholic parochial schools and later in the Milford school system as an elementary school teacher at the Pumpkin Delight School and the Simon Lake School. She took great pride in her work and was cherished by her students and fellow faculty members. Even in retirement, Edna's commitment to education never wavered. She volunteered with the Mercy Center of Bridgeport as a literacy teacher, continuing her mission to empower others through knowledge and compassion. Edna was treasured for her quick wit, dry sense of humor and her ability to connect with anyone.

After many years in the religious life, Edna and John answered the Lord's call to embark on their journey of marriage. Together they built a life dedicated to each other, their families and a wide circle of friends, neighbors and people in their community. Edna and John were forces of Christian giving and goodness, proving that sometimes one plus one is more than two. Their caring natures and quiet generosity touched many lives, offering comfort, guidance, and love.

Edna is survived by her beloved sister, Mary Healy, RSM., as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, family and friends. In addition to her dear husband and parents, she is predeceased by eleven siblings: Sally, Betty, Jack, Michael, Clement, George, James, Patrick, Charles, Robert, and Joseph.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mark R.C. Church, 500 Wigwam Lane, Stratford CT 06614. (MEET DIRECTLY AT CHURCH). Interment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery, 2205 Stratford Ave, Stratford, CT 06615.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of Mercy, 25 Prescott St., West Hartford, CT 06110.
