Robert Brown Obituary

BROWN Robert Joseph Brown "Brownie", age 84 of Stratford, beloved husband of the late Rosemary Gilroy Brown, died peacefully Wednesday, August 27, 2008. Mr. Brown was born in Providence, R.I. to the late Joseph and Maude Murphy Brown and having resided with his son, was a Stratford resident for five years. After faithfully serving his country in the US Marine Corps during World War II, Mr. Brown graduated from Brown University in 1948. He spent 25 years with IBM as a systems analyst in locations around the country and abroad and was awarded five patents and received numerous awards before retiring in 1983. Prior to his retirement, Brownie earned his Fine Arts Degree from the Rhode Island School of Design. He relocated with his wife from Old Greenwich to Saunderstown, R.I., where he built a home overlooking Narragansett Bay. An accomplished artist, Mr. Brown was one of the founders of the Wickford, Rhode Island Art Association and received a "best in show" award for one of his paintings in a national exhibit. He was also justifiably proud of his breathtaking annual display of multicolored dahlias. Survivors include his beloved children, Paul L. Brown of Stratford and Susan Brown Warner and her husband, Michael of Greenwich; his grandchildren, Ian Matthew Brown and his wife, Gabrielle of West Haven, Ryan Paul Brown and his wife, Magdalena of Bridgeport and Zachary Heath Brown, who is serving overseas with the U.S. Navy. Interment and a celebration of Mr. Brown's life will be held at a later date in Rhode Island. In lieu of flowers, the family would welcome donations to the Alzheimer's Association of CT Hospice at Home of Trumbull, CT or the Baldwin Senior Center in Stratford, CT in Mr. Brown's memory. The Gregory F. Doyle Funeral Home, 291 Bridgeport Avenue, Milford is in charge of arrangements.
