Coach Newell was also a terrific history teacher and mentor. It was because of him I became fascinated with the machinations of governments and cultures. May God hold him in the palms of His hands.

Dave, Jerry and Family,

May "Pop" rest in peace with our Lord and may you all have comfort and peace at this time. In addition to being a great family man, he was an excellent and well respected coach in so many venues, including the world of track and field that I knew. In later years, I always enjoyed seeing him at any softball game I was at that the Newall boys played.
