Stephanie Avalos Obituary

Stephanie Nelson Avalos
Stephanie Nelson Avalos, age 42, of Stamford, CT, beloved wife of Gustavo Avalos, Jr. passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 30, 2021. Born on June 13th, 1978, in Charleston, WV, to Robert & Dianne Nelson, of Southport, NC, Stephanie spent her early teenage years in Switzerland, then graduated from Newtown High School. She received a BA degree from Western Connecticut State University as well as a Master's Degree from Fairfield University. She spent many years fulfilling her passion for teaching and then went on to join her husband's family business at Soccer & Rugby Imports. Family, football, and traveling were some of Stephanie's greatest passions. She loved attending Giants football games with her husband, Gus. You could find her every weekend being the best aunt to her nieces and nephews. Gus and Stephanie spent as much time traveling as they could. She was deeply loved and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. In the end it's not the years in your life that count, but the life in your years. Along with her husband, Gus, she is survived by her parents, her brother, Steven Nelson, and his partner, Mindy Mucci, of Alexandria, VA; her in-laws, Gustavo and Francisca Avalos, of Fairfield; her aunt, Janis England, of Circleville, OH; her sisters-in-law, Jessica Rinaldi and Michelle Avalos, both of Trumbull; along with her niece Avery, of Boston, MA; and niece and nephews, Julian, Stephen Jr, and Rebecca, all of Trumbull. She was greeted in heaven by her grandmother, Alice Chase Harriman; her brother-in-law, Stephen Rinaldi; her uncle Jim England; and her loving companion, Kia the cat. Family and friends may visit on Friday, February 5, 2021 from 5-8 p.m. in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road, in Fairfield Center. Masks will be required and social distancing protocols will be followed for all in attendance. Such a kind and generous soul, Stephanie. As a teacher, she cared deeply about her students, often standing up for their concerns and issues. She was a friend, a colleague, whose spirit will be sorely missed. We send our most sincere thoughts and sympathy to her parents, to Gus and to her extended family. She left us way too soon.
