Timothy Morrissey Obituary

Timothy J. Morrissey Sr.
Timothy John "Boomer" Morrissey Sr., age 64 of Stratford, passed away at home on September 21, 2020 with family at his side. Boomer was born in Bridgeport on April 20, 1956 to the late Jack and Mary Lou (Carroll) Morrissey and was a lifelong Stratford resident. He was a graduate of St. Joseph High School class of 1974, and attended Southern Connecticut State University. Boomer graduated from Briarwood College, earning an AS in Mortuary Science, and was a funeral director for more than twenty years at Adzima Funeral Home. From an early age, he was a gifted, competitive athlete and a standout on many teams, including Stratford Little League, Stratford Pop Warner, and St. Joe's football. Boomer also enjoyed a distinguished competitive softball career, tallying more than 35 state and national championships as a pivotal member of several area softball teams, including Sikorsky Aircraft, Stonybrook JAWS, Ray's Grille, Jean Shack, the Stratford Ale House Masters, and the Frog Pond. It was his legendary home run hitting prowess that led his teammates to christen him with the mononymous nickname "Boomer." Boomer's love for all sports and his athletic ability were a mainstay in his life, and carried through to his sons, whom he coached and loved to watch play. Boomer was also a dedicated high school football official, serving as a member and past president of the Fairfield County Football Officials Association, and was the recipient of the National Football Foundation's Official of the Year in 2012 and the Connecticut Football Officials Hall of Fame Vincent J. Reilly Service Award in 2013. Boomer was a member of the Connecticut Funeral Directors Association, Fairfield County Funeral Directors Association, and the Stratford Old Timers Athletic Association. To those who had the pleasure of his friendship, he was larger than life, and stories of him—whether tending bar or holding court in any venue—will be fondly remembered. His ability to turn a brief interaction into an instant friendship was one of his most endearing traits. Boomer loved spending time with his friends and family, refereeing, completing numerous projects, smoking a cigar on his frequent trips to Arthur Avenue, and traveling to New York City annually for the Big East Tournament. Boomer will be greatly missed by his sons of whom he was immensely proud, Timothy J. Morrissey Jr. and Thomas J. Morrissey; his devoted siblings, Mary Pat McCullough and her husband John, Dennis Morrissey and his wife Pat, Brian Morrissey, Terry Morrissey and his wife Carrie, Ann Marie Cronan and her husband Mike, Kathleen Della Vecchia and her husband Joe, Mary Ellen Adzima and her husband Matt, and Pat Morrissey and his wife Debbie; numerous nieces and nephews; his companion, Donna Capuano; and his lifelong friends (including Neil Dinihanian, whose little league team, although on the precipice of victory, fell victim to the Boomer-led nine in the league championship in consecutive seasons). Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the family has elected to have a private family service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Boomer's memory to the Smilow Cancer Hospital at Park Avenue Medical Center. The Adzima Funeral Home has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements. Boomer.
I finally was able to read about your passing. The feeling of loss is still the same. I will miss our laughs during all your Physical Therapy visits at Village Street with Mike. I was honored to spend time with on your last visits, and truely enjoyed meeting your boys, who you adored. It was evident on your face when you talked about them. I will miss you so much my Friend. Until we meet again. With love always.

This news came completely out of left field and hit me like a ton of bricks when I heard the news today. I’ve known Tim for 40 plus years and spent many years competing with and against him on the softball diamond. Some our best times together where spent traveling playing softball with Sikorsky. We knew of each other, but never met until we started playing softball for Sikorsky, and that’s where our friendship and respect for each other developed.

I wasn’t always around, and we didn’t see each for many years at a time, but when we did run into each...it was like we just saw each each the night before...that’s Tim and that’s friendship. He’s was a quality dude, and I am super saddened by the news.

Rest In Peace my man!

My absolute deepest condolences to the entire Morrissey family!

Boomer will be greatly missed. We shared many memorable nights together at Dominick’s. After my shift, we would all go to the cafe next door and have a drink or two. He was so proud of Timmy and Tommy and would always tell us what the boys were up to.
Rest In Peace my friend.

Margo and Wack

September 24, 2020

I remember the first time I saw the two big guys together meaning Boomer and Wack. I was dating Wack at the time and believe me when I say being with both of them was never boring. I know Wack has great memories with Boomer and the boys growing up as well as I do.I know most everyone knows that Wack cannot and will never walk again . But many a night we sit and talk about thinks and when Boomers name gets mentioned we would always smile. When I went and told him about Boomer he just nodded and tears rolled down his cheeks. To Tim and Tommy we send you our prayers.Your dad was a great guy.

My first interaction with the man called "Boomer" came in the early 70's when I served as his football coach at St. Joe's. He was an excellent Receiver and Defensive Back. He and his teammates morphed us into a program that had to be respected.
In later years, Boomer shifted over to the "dark side" as a football official but he maintained the respect of all who came in contact with him. It was always great to see him as he possessed a great memory and he made everyone feel better about themselves.
I know the last couple of years have been difficult for him and the incredible Morrissey clan. His family, particularly his two sons, can be assured that he certainly made this world a better place by his presence.
Rest easy, old friend.

Timmy and Tommy, your father was a man with a heart of gold, hands of steel and a smile that could light up a room while he was lighting up a cigar. He was respected by anyone who played with or against him. He will be sorely missed by anyone who knew him. And he will always be remembered by those who were fortunate enough to be his friend. May he Rest in Peace.
