William Galvin Obituary

William E. Galvin, Sr. "Bill"
William E. Galvin, Sr. "Bill", of Monroe, CT, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, April 11, 2021. He was born June 14, 1936 to William E. and Margaret May Galvin in Bridgeport, CT.
Bill attended Bullard-Havens High School and graduated from The University School in 1955. Bill was a standout athlete and captain of his high school football team. He is on record for making the first official tackle in the Bullard-Havens football program. Bill served as a sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps between 1955 and 1959, stationed in Okinawa, Japan. Bill was proud of his country and his service in the military. He continued his education and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Bridgeport in 1964. Bill had a lifelong career in the real estate industry as the co-owner of VP Realty located in Monroe and Trumbull, CT. He married the love of his life, Susan Hill Galvin, on May 8, 1971. They had a beautiful marriage and lived inseparably for 50 years. They happily raised four children and welcomed twelve grandchildren.
Above all, Bill valued and appreciated time spent with his family. He was extremely present in the daily life of his children and grandchildren, attending every sporting event he possibly could and jumping at the chance to babysit. Bill exuded an extraordinary generosity, passion and gratefulness for life. He had a natural ability to connect with others; his genuine concern and care was apparent to anyone who met him. He loved learning new subjects, especially if they were health related, and sharing his knowledge with friends and family. Bill's interest in holistic medicine pre-dated the trend as he enjoyed juicing and practicing yoga since the 1980s. Bill continued his daily yoga practice, and all of his grandchildren marveled at his ability to do headstands up until just a few months ago. He passed on his passion for well-being and energy for life to his family and will forever be an inspiration to his children and grandchildren. He will be dearly missed.
In addition to his beloved wife, Bill is survived by his four children, Jennie May Galvin Speed (Ron) of Ridgewood, NJ, William E. Galvin, Jr. (Catherine) of Stamford, CT, Kathryn Mary Griffith (Matthew) of Clyde Hill, WA and John F. Galvin (Ashley) of Stamford, CT, and his twelve grandchildren, Sienna, Jackson, Scarlett and Rory Speed; Kiley, William III, and Quentin Galvin; Delaney, Bennet and Riley Griffith; and L.J. and Ryan Galvin. He is also survived by his sisters Maryanne Newcomb and Eleanor Feroleto, brother-in-law Richard Hill (Anne) and many loving nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Margaret Russell.
The family welcomes all relatives and friends on Friday, April 16, 2021 for visitation from 10AM – 12:30 p.m. and to a prayer service and eulogy at 12:30PM, at Bosak Funeral Home, 453 Shippan Ave., Stamford, CT. His interment will follow at St. Johns Cemetery, 25 Camp Avenue, Darien, CT.
In compliance with state mandates and the safety of all those attending his funeral services, it is mandatory to wear face coverings and maintain social distancing.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO BOX 758516, Topeka, KS 66675.
