William McMellon Obituary

McMELLON William McMellon, age 83, of North Haven, died Tuesday, March 14, 2006 at St. Raphael€s Hospital. He was the husband of Nancy DePalma McMellon. Born in Milford on June 24, 1922, he was the son of the late Charles and Alice Dodd McMellon. He attended Bridgeport University majoring in electrical engineering. William worked for the former N.Y., N.H. and Hartford Railroads for 20 years and then as a supervisor for Amtrak. He later worked with his son at McMellon Woodcraft, Inc., Cheshire. He had served as a corporal in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II in Guam. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Cheshire. He was the father of Gayle Coakley of Basking Ridge, N.J., William C. (Marie) McMellon of Branford and Arthur D. (Karel) McMellon of Cheshire; grandfather of Kevin (Jen) Coakley, Erin and Lauren Coakley, Kara (Noel) Bermudez, Megan, A.J. and Anthony McMellon; great-grandfather of Alexandria McMellon. His funeral procession will leave the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue, North Haven, Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Therese Church, North Haven at 10 a.m. Interment with full military honors will follow in All Saints Cemetery, North Haven. The visiting hours will be Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 5 Brookside Drive, Wallingford, CT 06492 or to the National Kidney Foundation, 2139 Silas Deane Highway, Rocky Hill, CT 06067.
