Charles Edward Barnes, 82 of Cloudcroft, NM died Monday November 9, 2015 at his home with his family by his side.
Charles was born August 12, 1933 in Sidney, Iowa to Leta Mildred Coffey and George Leroy Barnes. He grew up in Iowa and moved to Carlsbad, NM in 1951. There he met his lifelong partner of 61 years, Velda Fern Smith Barnes.
He worked at Prudential Insurance Company for 30 years, retiring in 1991. He began a second career at WIPP and retired in 1999. Charles was also a member of The Army National Guard of New Mexico.
Charles and Velda spent the last 15 years fulfilling their dream of being footloose and fancy free while traveling about in their RV. They spent most winters in Del Rio, TX where Charles spent many hours on Lake Amistad fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Velda Barnes, son Charles A. Barnes and wife Yvonne Barnes of Cloudcroft, NM. Son Ron Barnes and wife Brenda Barnes of Phoenix, AZ, two nephews, Royce and Phyllis Barnes of Arkansas and Jim and Tonda Barnes of Missouri.
Six Grandchildren, Sarrah West, Chad Barnes, Jessica Galica, Kim Barnes, Richard Gonzales, and Emily Barnes
Four Great-Grandchildren, Ayden Barnes, Isaac West, Aubrianna Barnes, and Avery Barnes.
He was preceded in death by his parents Thomas A. Williams and Leta Mildred Williams and Brother Harold Barnes and a nephew Tom Barnes.
Memorial service will be held Saturday, November 21, 2015 at 2 pm at The First Baptist Church in Cloudcroft, NM with Rev Larry Evans officiating. No visitation will be held. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the American Cancer Society in memory of Charles E Barnes.
