Marian Kardos Obituary

Marian Kardos passed from this world to heaven on August 18, 2025. Born on July 2, 1928, in Altavista, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Milton Hite, and Claude and Belle Stoner and made her home in Charlottesville. Marian was an absolutely beautiful woman-inside and out. She and her beloved husband, James Nick Kardos, were married for 63 years and made a stunning couple. As one former neighbor from Sheridan Avenue fondly said, they were a "movie-star couple." While Marian worked several jobs around town over the years, she was most at home as the Director of the Kardos household. Raising four children is a full-time job, and she brought to it her trademark grace, humor, and competence. She was a talented seamstress, an accomplished cook, and the heartbeat of a home that welcomed family and friends for countless meals, Florida vacations, and spontaneous weekend drives to visit loved ones. Marian is survived by her children: Claudia Kardos and her husband, Steve Peters, of Boynton Beach, Florida; Charlie (Mary) Kardos of Scottsville; and Bill Kardos (the late Coco) of Palmyra. She was preceded in death by her beloved son, James Marion Kardos; and by her siblings, Ruth Payne and Donald Caine. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Amy Whelan (Shawn), Amanda Locker, Errin Rea Searcy (Bryan), David Kardos (Lisa), James Kardos, and Stevie Mae Houchens (Duane); and by seven great grandchildren. Three very special people-Adele Marshall Conniff, Roger (Buddy) Swift, and Peggy Betrand-held a unique place in her heart and family story. Services Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM on Monday, August 25, 2025, at Riverview Cemetery (Charlottesville, VA), followed by a graveside service and burial at 2:00 PM at the same location.
