After our mutual retirements John & Linda and Jo & I didn't see much of each other. However, we had a lovely reunion four years ago when another colleague, Richard Rogan, joined us for lunch at Ellwood's. I will always treasure the memory of that event. I share in everyone's sense of loss.

When there was a parking lot next to Reavis Hall, my late husband and I shared it with John and other colleagues. There was a comfort in waiting for John to remove his helmet and join Arthur and me in the walk to Watson. More recently, our daughter, Cathy, and I loved his witty and kind stories about cats at Tails. No one can take up the camera and text to write such special vignettes about the cats at our local shelter. I will miss you, John, and my heart aches for your lovely wife, Linda, who was my former student and friend.

Obrigada to Dr. Kerr, my first Portuguese teacher. Always happy to greet me by name when we bumped into one another on campus, he had an unmatched warmth for his students. My condolences to his family and many friends.

Dr. Kerr got me started in a lifelong love for the study of Portugal, its colonies in the New World and its language. Though I have not visited Brazil, my husband and I did travel throughout Portugal in the `80s. Obrigada, Dr. Kerr.

Professor Kerr's Portuguese class was one of my favorites as an NIU student in the 90's, I have fond memories of him. What an amazing life he led! My sympathy and condolences to his family.
