My deepest condolences, belated, on the loss of Dave. My brother Greg was also saddened when he learned of Dave's passing. I was out of town when the services were conducted, but still I want to offer my condolences. Our families grew up together and I feel a sense of loss as well.
May God Bless All of you during this time.
Sincerely Yours,
Joan Love

David was a passionate man. He had a passion for friends, laughter and loyalty. He had a passion for horses and rodeos, politics and books, GMC trucks, Crichton and King, thriller movies and country western music. He loved characters and was one himself. He was intelligent and hilarious. He used to say he was a man born too late. He wanted to walk this earth when man traveled on horseback and when the west was just being discovered, when disputes were settled over whiskey or with fists and when the stars were your blanket at night. He never felt quite right in this century. David wasn’t an easy person, but never pretended to be. Yet, he was bigger than life and loved by those who understood him. You left a mark, Dave.

Just heard about Dave's passing last night. If I could I would have certainly attended the services. Please accept my condolences. Dave gave me my first paying newspaper job. I think he'd be proud to know that today I'm working for the L.A. Times.

Dave touched the lives of many people and entertained countless others who remember his activism in politics or as a former reporter. Dave will be missed by many friends.
