I will always remember Mr. Corcoran as our happy, smiling next door neighbor. Whenever he & my Dad would stand outside & talk, there was always laughter. My Dad, Bob Knox, who's entry is beneath mine, passed away on August 12, 2007. I picture them somewhere right now, neighbors again, still laughing.

The Corcoran family and the Knox family moved onto Interlochen drive at the same time. Evenings after work, we would often meet at the curb in front of our homes and watch the trucks haul fill into our back yards. Dust and dirt was everywhere; you couldn't escape it.
I would complain, but that's when I learned that my neighbor was part leprechaun. He had an easy infectuous smile and a quick Irish wit. Over the years we often stood together as evening approached and watched our grass grow.
I learned that he was a war hero by reading a book "A Bridge Too Far" and found a post script describing his encounter with a German tank. He told the story as only an Irishman could. He didn't talk much of the war, but a couple of beers might loosen his tongue.
We saw very little of Jim after he sold the house, but we ran into him a few years ago in the parking lot at Sacred Heart. He was thinner, perhaps a little shorter and older looking. But, his eyes lit up when he saw us, his handshake firm. You could see that same guy who used to watch with you as those truckloads of fill were dumped in the back yard and the dust was every where; even in the nostrils.
God Bless you Jim, Give our love to Fran.

My dear Dad: Words cannot explain the heartache I feel of loosing you. You have left such an everlasting impression of happiness, laughter and love. I will always pass that wonderful trait of yours to my boys and everyone I know, because after all, it's the only way to live. You are so deserving of your final rest, you worked so hard raising us for 23 years on your own. I will always try to be brave and strong, those words will stay with me forever. I love you my precious Father. I hope you're dancing "I left my heart in San Francisco" with our lovely lady, Mom.

Ellen and Jim Hilton

March 20, 2007

The memories we have of Jim are what a class act he was. He had a wonderful way about him. He was truly a Christian man. We were young marrieds when the Corcorans moved to Palos. I was so impressed what love his children had for him especially his daughters. He was so crazy for his children. One Christmas the doorbell rang on Christmas Eve and it was Jim dressed as Santa Claus. This was so special for me (Ellen)being from out of town and no family here in IL he was such a treasure. Another time Jim and I saw him at Sacred Heart Church during Lent and he say Hello and you knew that he was praying for you and our family. We truly will miss such a great person who made the world a better place for us. Love, Jim and Ellen Hilton
