Charlotte Padoven Obituary
Charlotte Frances Owsley Padoven, 97, passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2014, in Missouri City, Texas. She was born in the family home in Grain Valley, Mo., the fifth of eight children, to Clarence Torrie and Emma Jenny Hague Owsley on Oct. 4, 1916.
Her family relocated to Carmel Ranch near Alamosa, Colo., in 1926. One of Charlotte's
most enduring memories was that of riding her beloved horse, Queenie, around the ranch and nearby foothills. Charlotte graduated Adams State College in Alamosa, Colo., and taught in one-room schools in the Colorado mining camps of Tioga and Del Carbon and in the farming community of Saguache, Colo. She resigned in 1943 and went to Chicago, Ill., to marry her college sweetheart, John Padoven fellow Adams State College alumnus, who was serving in the U. S. Navy at the U.S.N. Training Station, Great Lakes, Ill.
They were married, March 9, 1943. After World War II she moved with her husband to several Colorado towns when he was transferred as a manager of Gordon's, a department store chain, the last transfer being to Farmington in 1957. In 2005 she moved with her daughter and son-in-law to Missouri City, Texas.
Charlotte was a lifelong Methodist. At the First United Methodist Church of Farmington she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, and for many years served as the UMW Wedding Reception Coordinator and on the Shepherding Committee visiting Methodists in the hospital. Charlotte also served as a board member of Childhaven during its formative years. She loved to read and play bridge, but her favorite hobby was genealogy
research.
Charlotte is survived by her daughter Jane Rose and husband, Jim, of Missouri City, Texas; sons, John Padoven and wife, Kara, of Santa Fe and Robert Padoven of Farmington; granddaughter Shari Rose Lim and husband, Belton; and great-granddaughter Ava Rose Lim, all of Missouri City; sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Owsley of Eureka, Ill. and Marilyn Owsley of Alamosa, Colo.; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John Padoven; her son, Richard Padoven; and all of her siblings,
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 12, at the First United Methodist Church, 808 N. Monterey Ave. in Farmington.
If you wish to honor Charlotte's life, the family suggests donations be made to Childhaven or to the FUMCF United Methodist Women.
