Jeni...it is with sadness that we heard of Dan's death. He was a fun loving kind spirit and always a cheery smile. Even though we have been away from Greenville for over 20 years, your family has always had a place in our hearts. He was a positive contributor to making Greenville a good place to live. With continued thoughts and prayers.

Dr. Berger was my mother's doctor for many years. Under his care she beat the odds many times until she was 93. I attribute her survival to Dr. Berger's excellent care. There are no words to describe what a compassionate, caring doctor he was. God must have felt that heaven needed a good doctor!

Jeni and Family,
The entire Naveau family sends its prayers and deepest sympathy. When I learned of Dan's passing, a flood of bittersweet memories came over me. Started with a terrible Sunday morning in 1980 when I took over surgery call from him at St. Elizabeth's, and shortly was in the operating room trying to deal with something this now hardened doctor had not experienced. Quickly went on to the memory of hearing about 200 times how he and Jim Tytko had gone to the Pine Club and each ordered the steak for two. Memory of him telling me how Dr. Must was trying to convince him to ask out this cute X ray tech (one of Dan's better moves.)
After coming to Greenville, he cared for my parents. I last saw him at a meeting in Dayton a year or so ago, and even though he was fading, made sure he asked about my own mother and how she was doing.
Dan was a gentleman, a man who loved to laugh and joke, and, in the best compliment that can be given to an old St. E's alum, a "real doctor." May our Lord speed him to Him, and may He comfort all who loved him.

Dear Jeni & Family,
Living far away it's easy to be out of touch and not know how life is going for family members. I recently asked my sister how Dan was doing and shortly later she informed him that he had passed. I was sorry to hear of his passing. No doubt he finished the race well and is in a perfect place now. I will remember his smile which came so easily to him.
Also, I enjoyed looking at your family photos it says a lot about the closeness of your family.
I extend my sympathy to all of his family.
God bless,

I will always remember Dr Berger has someone who grew the tallest tomato plants in our area. I loved listening to him explain how he grew his garden and quite jealous that I could not do the same with my plants. I will miss seeing him take his walk around the block with his little Yorkie and you Jeni by his side. I will be thinking of you..

I know Dr. Berger through his daughter Sally. I don't know Jeni and Dr. Berger very well. BUT I KNOW Sally. And I know the struggle physically this man has gone through. I've not seen such power, such determination and such Love for his family to keep running the race even when he was so physically disabled. Sally is one of the dearest I know. I consider her one of my "daughters". And just knowing her, tells me how special this family is. Jenni you are in my prayers, and Sally, I'm sorry you lost your daddy. Love to the whole family. Jeni, Jim and I send our most sincere condolences to you and your family.
Dr. Berger was caring, personable, outstandingly gifted, and knowledgeable. We remember when he took a leave from his practice to further study and then practice geriatric medicine , and he reassured us with a laugh that we were old enough to continue as his patients when he returned! Dr. Berger's
woodcutting technique was amazing- he measured and stacked each piece so the resulting wood pile was perfection. Maybe only another wood cutter can appreciate what it takes to do that...
He left a wonderful legacy; there is a void on earth where he once lived. May he rest in peace.

Thank God I was blessed to have known Dan as my family doctor since October 1984, and also as my friend in Christ Jesus since June, 1995. He was a very empathic and caring doctor and man. I have never met a person that was so sick and yet carried himself with so much dignity at all times. He showed me how to face my illness with Christ having all the "GLORY". He was a man of GOD in all ways and there will never be another person that could fill his place in this life. He loved His Lord and His family with all his heart and I feel so deeply sorry for your loss. He has been missed by many as our physician, he will be missed always as my friend. We know DAN is with OUR LORD and his body is completely healed that is the only thing that makes this loss bearable. May God keep you Jeni and girls in HIS ARMS as you go through this time. May peace be upon your lives. Prayers are always with you.
